Disney voice actor Ana Ofelia Murguía has died at the age of 90.

The voice actor and Mexican film star was known for her role as Mama Coco in Disney's popular 2017 film Coco. Her death was announced by the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature on social media.

They wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter : "With deep sadness we regret the sensitive death of the leading actress Ana Ofelia Murguía, who was part of the stable cast of the @CNTeatromx of #INBAL and whose artistic career was vital for the performing arts of Mexico.We send condolences and lovingly hug her family and friends."

The star was born in Mexico in 1933. Some of her early roles included The Queen of the Night (1994) as Doña Victoria and as Doña Amelia in Nobody Will Speak of Us When We're Dead. Other moves roles include in La Vispera, La pasión de Isabela, Los Motivos de Luz and Mexican, You Can Do It.

The star holds the record for the most nominations for the Ariel Award for Best Actress without a win, having been nominated a total of five times. Ana holds the record with Isela Vega for most Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actress wins, with three in total along with a few more nominations.

Her most renowned part was in Coco, which is a movie inspired by the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. Ana played Mama Coco, Miguel's great-grandmother and the daughter of Héctor and Imelda who moves around in a wheelchair.

Upon hearing the news of her death, many of her fans took to social media to pay tribute to the talented star and voice actor. One user said: "An authentic Mexican actress, Mrs. Ana Ofelia Murguía, has just died. Rest in peace."

"Maravillosa, encantadora, generosa y muy divertida ¡Gracias querida Doña AnaOfe!" one said while another added while discussing her best films: "Ana Ofelia Murguía, a relevant piece of theater, film and TV, dies at the age of 90. In cinema he is a must-see in 'Shipwreck', 'Las poquianchis', 'Párpados azul', 'Queen of the Night'. María Rojo and Patricia Reyes Spíndola always told me about her as the best actress in Mexico."

One heartbroken user said: "Yesterday another great actress left us! The Mrs. Ana Ofelia Murguía, at 90 years old Rest in peace!"
