Tom Lockyer speaks for first time since Luton skipper suffered cardiac arrest
Luton captain Tom Lockyer has issued on an update on his health, revealing his future will be decided in a meeting with specialists next month.
Lockyer collapsed during Luton's trip to Bournemouth three weeks ago, with it later being revealed that the midfielder had suffered a cardiac arrest. After being stabilised in hospital, the Welshman was discharged 11 days ago, though has understandably missed each Luton game since the incident.
Now, he has issued a fresh update on his health, with the midfielder set to hold a meeting with specialists in the New Year to decide his future. Lockyer has insisted though that he will do everything he can to support the Hatters' battle to beat relegation from the Premier League.
"I would just like to say that I am doing very well and feeling very much myself after the cardiac arrest I suffered in Bournemouth. The reason I’m doing so well is all down to the heroic actions of the players, staff, doctors and paramedics," Lockyer said in a statement.
"I feel thankful that this happened to me surrounded by these heroes. They saved my life. I will never forget what you did for me. While I’m sad not to be involved, I feel full of pride watching the boys carry on the battle without me.

"The fighting spirit I’ve seen in the last three games has given me a much needed lift. I will be doing whatever I can in whichever ways are possible to help the Gaffer and the Club. In what capacity that is remains to be decided as I’m due to meet with specialists in the new year.

Luton boss Rob Edwards issued a positive update on Lockyer before their defeat to Chelsea. He admitted his skipper is 'already bored' but is in good spirits.
“I speak to him every day. He is progressing. He seems bored already, but in generally good spirits, which is really good. He was taking the mick out of my Christmas trainers against Sheff United, so yeah he is doing well," he said.
“They’re an incredibly tight group these lads and they’re like a family. And obviously one of the family had a really tough time a couple of weeks ago, so we all have to rally round each other, support each other and help. If that has brought us tighter, then good but the main thing is Tom in all of this.”
