BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty 'snubbed' from male colleagues 'annual tradition'

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has been 'left out' of an annual tradition by her broadcasting co-stars.

During today's broadcast (December 30), the journalist was less than pleased to spot she'd missed 'the wardrobe memo' between two of her male colleagues, as they twinned their outfits of dark grey suits and a burgundy tie. Co-host Charlie Stayt and sports journalist Chetan Pathak coordinated their outfits, whilst Naga was in a white blouse and black trousers instead leaving her visibly annoyed.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Charlie explained in light-hearted conversation with Chetan: "I did notice earlier on you got the memo about the ties." To which his sporting co-star replied: "I thought it was that time of year we wear the same burgundy tie, so we did it, Charlie."

Spotting she'd been snubbed, Naga then quipped: "Why didn't I get the memo?" A nervous Charlie feigned ignorance as he said: "Errm. Don't know really. Chetan, you can answer that one."

The awkward exchange was short lived, as the trio joined forces to share a festive snap on their final show of the year together. Chetan shared the picture as he told Twitter/X: "Thanks for watching. And however you’re seeing in the new year this weekend wishing you a good one x."

Viewers responded to the snap, as one noted the outfit comments as they wrote: "Happy New Year Chetan! Great to see you on. Saturday programme is my favourite of the week. Today’s programme was excellent and your matching tie jokes with Charlie!" Another shared: "Thankyou Chetan for superb coverage. Great to see you on the breakfast. Immaculate as always.. wishing you all the luck for 2024. xx".

The BBC Breakfast snub comes as earlier in December Naga won over TV viewers when she took a turn at presenting satirical news programme Have I Got News For You. Naga presented alongside Maisie Adam and Richard Osman, with her appearance going down a treat with fans. The 48-year-old's role was such a success that viewers want her back.

"Great hosting. Hope to see you in the chair again soon," said one fan as they flocked to X, formally Twitter. " Naga Munchetty needs to host Have I Got News For You every week," said another. While someone else said: "Naga's fun cheeky side is perfect for HIGNY BBC should utilise her fun side more."

BBC Breakfast airs at 6am on BBC One and is available on the BBC iPlayer.
