Dancing On Ice returns in January - but will Holly Willoughby?

Dancing On Ice returns to our TV screens this weekend but the 16th series of the ITV show looks set to be very different.

Last year's offering of the long-running reality TV show saw Nile Wilson & Olivia Smart crowned the champions of the ice rink, with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby the ones to announce the news that the public had voted for the former British artistic gymnast to be their winner.

But following Schofield's resignation from ITV in May, after admitting to a historic affair with a younger This Morning colleague, just who will host Dancing On Ice this time around has been the question on everyone's lips over recent weeks

As ITV bosses confirm Holly will be returning to the series this weekend with a brand new co-host, here's everything we know about the 2024 series of Dancing On Ice - including when it starts, the star-studded line-up and just who will be hosting the live shows with Holly.

Which celebrities are taking part in Dancing On Ice 2024?

Retired boxer Ricky Hatton was announced as the first celebrity to be participating in the series earlier this year, with more famous names revealed throughout the week before the line-up was concluded on 6 October. Former Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb was initially announced to be competing in the series, after quitting the Channel 4 show in order to be free to appear on other series, but was forced to withdraw from the competition in October after breaking his ankle. The 2024 Dancing On Ice couples are:

One celebrity who won't be taking to the ice next month is The Chase star Anne Hegerty, with the quiz quru recently revealing she tried out for the upcoming series of Dancing on Ice, but snubbed it in favour of her starring role in panto. "I did have a try-out for Dancing on Ice because I would love to learn to ice skate," Anne explained. "It was then discovered it was going to clash with panto, and the experience of being on a stage, working with an audience, getting to act and sing and be funny… I really valued that. I mean, I would just be one of those people who would be towed around behind a penguin and never actually let go. It would be quite sad."

Who are the judges and who will be presenting Dancing On Ice 2024?

In December, sources claimed that Holly was suffering a "crisis of confidence" over her potential TV comeback, with the mum-of-three off-air since quitting This Morning in October. I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! contestant Josie Gibson, 38, and singer Rochelle Humes, 34 – who have both hosted This Morning – were thought to be in the running to replace Holly should she decide not to return.

However, on 28 December ITV finally revealed Stephen Mulhern will be replacing Schofield on the ice rink next week - and confirmed Holly is ready to step back into the spotlight and host the figure skating show once again, following a break from her career since stepping down from This Morning in October.

"The greatest show on ice makes its big return to ITV1, STV and ITVX in January, as Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern join forces to take the helm on Dancing on Ice," ITV said in a statement as they announced Holly's upcoming return to TV. "Celebrating 20 years since they first worked together on Ministry of Mayhem, Willoughby and Mulhern will preside over the action on the high octane skating show as this year’s celebrities compete to become champion of the ice. Judges Torvill and Dean, Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse are back on the panel."

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, added: "Holly and Stephen are two of our best loved presenters, so reuniting them twenty years after they first appeared on screen together to host Dancing on Ice marks the start of an exciting year for the show."

When does Dancing On Ice 2024 start?

No official start date has been announced for next year's series of Dancing On Ice, other than ITV confirming things will kick off in January and "further announcements will be made in due course. Last year's series premiered on Sunday 15 January, with the 2022 series beginning on Sunday 16th January, so it's possible the 2024 Dancing On Ice start date could possible be Sunday 14 January.
