Davina McCall admits to secretly pestering the Royal Family for 48 years

My Mum, Your Dad host Davina McCall has revealed that she has been secretly contacting the Royal Family since the age of eight.

The 56 year old mum of three, who was recently awarded an MBE which she is set to pick up next month, says that she realises it's "a little bit weird" but she has been sending letters to different members of the Royal Family - including the late Queen. Speaking of her obsession, she said: "I have been writing to the Royal Family since I was eight. I started off with a letter to the Queen. I got a letter with the wax on the back. "

She added: "I then wrote one to Princess Margaret, [and] to Princess Diana after the Panorama interview." But her need to contact them did not end there, she then confessed to writing to the newly appointed King Charles when he was a Prince. She added: "I wrote to Prince Charles during his 'Climategate' when everyone was ridiculing him. I wrote to William and Kate."

And recently when it was confirmed that she had been chosen for an MBE, she received a letter in the post from Prince William which made her day. She continued to tell Heat magazine: "When I got my MBE, I got a letter from Prince William saying, 'I just want to say congratulations. We are so pleased for you'. It meant a lot to me."

But it seems Davina, who is mum to Holly, 22, Tilly, 20, and son Chester, 16, had another secret that she has only now been willing to divulge - her cameo role in Doctor Who. The presenter who became a household name by hosting reality TV show Big Brother in 2000, played herself in the episode - but she kept the news from her family as it was "too big a thing to share."

When asked what her children thought of her cameo role, she confessed: "I didn't tell them - I kept it a total secret until it was announced. It was too big a thing to share. I never tell any of my family who's behind the masks in The Masked Singer, either, because I make them watch it when it's on. The great thing about being menopausal is that I've forgotten by the time it airs."

Davina, previously voiced a robot named Davina-droid in 2005 for the episode of Bad Wolf. But she then joined the cast alongside the new Doctor Who, played by Ncuti Gatwa and his assistant Millie Gibson for the Christmas Day special. And while viewers are used to seeing Davina being light-hearted on screen, it seems as though she takes her work incredibly seriously.

When speaking about the Masked Singer, she revealed that during filming of the new series she stormed off stage after not realising the identity of her pal who was singing underneath the mask. She admitted that the revelation left her "kicking herself" but said it was the "greatest surprise."

Davina shares the panel with comedian Mo Gilligan, chat show host Jonathan Ross and singer Rita Ora. She told The Sun: "The funny thing was that all of us have met this one character. We were kicking ourselves. I just couldn't help myself storming off when I saw who the person was. There have been many people on the show who I have met in passing, but this was a real friend, someone I have known for years."
