Alejandro Garnacho suggested that Manchester United's critics talk too much after the Red Devils came from two goals down to beat Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Teenage winger Garnacho sparked United's epic 3-2 comeback victory thanks to a pair of second-half strikes, allowing striker Rasmus Hojlund to score the winner with his long-awaited first Premier League goal. With a respondent Marcus Rashford also setting up Garnacho's first goal, it was a productive night for the Red Devils' forwards, who've come in for heavy criticism in recent weeks.

United came into Tuesday's match following a four-game goal drought which by the time their 19-year-old Argentine netted his side's first comeback goal in the 59th minute had lasted seven hours. Revelling in the victory, a buoyant Garnacho told Prime Video Sport : "Too many people talk about the strikers at Man United, that we never score goals or get assists, but you see today Rashford with assists, goals for Rasmus and me. Everyone is very happy."

The Argentina international also described the occasion as one of the 'best days of his life'. "I wanted to try and take control of things," Garnacho said of the second half, with United having been 2-0 down after 26 minutes.

"I said we just needed one goal to get back into it, I got that first one but it was offside. But as I said before we never give up so it was a case of scoring the first goal and keeping on pressing. I am very happy for Rasmus also to get his first league goal."

Hojlund, too, was understandably buzzing, having gone 14 games - tallying 1,026 minutes - without a goal in the Premier League. "It has been a while [waiting for a first league goal] but yes I am very happy," the Danish striker beamed.

"I am the happiest man alive right now. You can see from the celebrations as well. Like [Garnacho] said we believed in ourselves until the very end and got the win today.

Boss Erik ten Hag added: "I said before the game that we were competitive with Arsenal, competitive with Liverpool so if we play our best we can beat anyone. Believe that, even when you are two-nil down, it doesn't matter.

"Keep going, show character, and today they did show we have the personality to do it. I think it was a very good team performance."
