Lucy Letby will be spending the Christmas period behind bars, but it might not be as grim as you imagine.

The jailed former nurse will be able to watch Christmas films on the private TV in her single cell according to reports, which claim she was given the luxury following an apparent prison move. Letby, who was found guilty of murdering seven babies and deliberately harming six more between June 2015 and 2016, was handed a whole-life order for her heinous crimes in August.

The 33-year-old maintained her innocence earlier this month when she chose not to resist an application to strike her off the nursing register, but stated that she did not accept she was guilty of any of the allegations. The ex-NHS worker currently faces a re-trial for one count of attempted murder of a newborn baby girl. She has also applied to be allowed to appeal all of her existing convictions.

It is believed Letby is currently locked up in the privately-run HMP Bronzefield in Surrey, after being moved from the notorious HMP Low Newton in Durham, with a source claiming she has been granted new 'privileges' that other inmates are forced to wait much longer for, including a makeover. The Prison Service has said it 'cannot comment on individual cases'.

In keeping with prison rules, it is expected that the convicted murderer will spend at least 22 hours in her cell alone each day, including Christmas. She would have likely been allowed to read newspapers and books and watch television, but not much else. For an hour of the day, she would have been able to exercise and walk the prison grounds.

Letby, who was blonde when she was last pictured being arrested, has changed her appearance, a source claimed. According to The Sun, Letby has been allowed to have a makeover, dyeing her her hair brown. It has also been reported that she is yet to get a prison job, and is in a single cell where she has an ensuite shower, desk and television to herself. The private TV, it is claimed, has infuriated other inmates.

The source told the publication last month: "Letby seems happy as Larry. She is in a nice cell and on her own. The facilities at Bronzefield are much nicer than most jails because it's privately run." The source continued: "She is with prisoners who have earned more rights to watch TV, spend their cash and have visits. It is a disgrace and it's no wonder she's been looking so happy. She seems to be being treated with kid gloves because of who she is."

In October, it was claimed Letby formed a jail 'gang' with a mum who murdered her baby and a woman who helped her boyfriend cut up his step-sister's body, while behind bars at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey. The former nurse struck up a tight bond with baby poisoner Michelle Smith and Shauna Hoare, who was convicted for her part in the killing of schoolgirl Becky Watts, a source told The Mirror.

The three were 'inseparable' and spent months enjoying luxuries such as sunbathing, karaoke and movie nights. Our source said: "They were together 24 hours a day - they were a well-known threesome and were literally never apart. They'd spend hours sitting on the wing landing playing board games, eating dinner together and tanning in the courtyard. I think they got on because they all believed they were innocent."

Smith was sentenced to life in 2007 after being convicted of feeding adult-strength painkillers to six-week-old daughter Amy. And callous Hoare, who was freed earlier this year, served eight years for her part in the killing of Bristol 16-year-old Becky Watts in 2015. Another source added: "It's a good job they've been separated. They are the last people you would want associating with each other."

A source also claimed Letby had been allowed access to her laptop in her cell. They said: "She became really chummy with one of the nurses who came round to give prisoners their daily medication. They'd talk at length about different pills and stuff - which we found very strange. And she was also allowed her laptop in her cell to work on her case." After her trial Letby, originally from Herefordshire, was reportedly transferred to HMP Low Newton in Co Durham.

When Letby was convicted in August 2023, experts explained what life would be like for her inside prison. Letby likely has 'restricted status' for an inmate, which is considered the female equivalent of Category A - meaning she is the highest-risk threat to the public. "She'll be what's known as a 'restricted status' prisoner," Mark Leech, a prisons expert and editor of The Prison Oracle website told the Telegraph. "She'll be on suicide watch and it will be some time before she gets to mingle with the main prison population - at least six months."

Professor Yvonne Jewkes, professor of criminology at the University of Bath, said Letby will have a price on her head in prison. "At best, she'll be subjected to extreme bullying and intimidation. At worst, she might be in quite considerable physical danger," she told the Telegraph. Letby will also have very little human contact. "She'll associate mostly with prison officers, her key worker in the prison and one or two cleaners, but much of that interaction will be through the hatch in her cell door," Leech added.
