From the coronation of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey to England’s Lionesses making it all the way to the final of the World Cup in Australia, and Liverpool hosting the Eurovision Song Contest, which of the year’s highlights are you excited to see celebrated?

The star-studded event is about far more than celebrities. The National Lottery’s New Year’s Eve Big Bash also celebrates ordinary people who make extraordinary things happen around the United Kingdom, thanks to National Lottery funding.

So brace yourself for an emotional journey as the 100 Voices United Choir takes centre stage, promising a performance that transcends borders and cultures.

The choir was founded when Ukrainian Inna Ruzheva moved to the UK. Seeking cultural integration between British and Ukrainian children, she joined forces with choir director Vicki Hambleton and a dedicated team of teachers.

They brought together 100 pupils from Liverpool schools and the Ukrainian Children’s Choir to form the 100 Voices United Choir.

“The youngest children are only four years old, some of the kids are visually impaired, and all of them sing in both English and Ukrainian,” explains Vicki.

“We’ve learnt so much about each other’s cultures, discovered a space where we can all express ourselves, and made friends for life.

“The choir couldn’t have united people on this scale without the support of National Lottery funding.”

Additionally, the Urban Fox Orchestra Steelband will deliver a special performance to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Windrush.

Throughout 2023, Caribbean culture has been celebrated through various events, including carnivals, exhibitions, and inter-generational workshops.

Earlier this year, more than 100 community groups across the UK received a share of almost £1 million of National Lottery funding to commemorate the anniversary.

Indeed, all of these remarkable performances are a testament to National Lottery players, who help to generate more than £30 million each week to fund projects, help organisations and enable charities to do vital work across the country.
