Laura Lynch left the hit 90s band, the Dixie Chicks, back in 1995, shocking the world.

Almost three decades later and following the devastating news of her tragic death, it's been revealed that the band had to make "a music decision" back then, and "passed the batton" to new member Natalie Maines, as Laura left the band and quit music altogether to focus on raising her daughter. She was 37 at the time.

The founding member of the band reportedly died on Friday outside of El Paso in Texas after sunset while driving to nearby Dell City. Mick Lynch, the musician's cousin, told TMZ that she passed on Friday and the report was confirmed to the publication by Texas Dept. of Public Safety.

The Chicks reacted with a tribute on social media, writing: "We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks. We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together.

"Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humour gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the mid-West."
