The Chicks' Laura Lynch dies in head-on collision and declared dead at roadside
The Chicks ' Laura Lynch has died after a head-on collision in Texas, reported TMZ.
The founding member of the band reportedly died on Friday outside of El Paso in Texas after sunset while driving to nearby Dell City. Mick Lynch, the musician's cousin, told TMZ that she passed on Friday and the report was confirmed to the publication by Texas Dept. of Public Safety.
Laura was said to be making the hour-and-a-half drive from El Paso to Dell City in the evening when she was involved in a head-on collision. Law enforcement has told TMZ that she was heading east on Highway 62 when another car heading west tried to pass another car in front of it on a two-way undivided portion of the highway.

"Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. The car that tried to go around reportedly hit Laura's car head-on and killed her and she was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the report. Police are now investigating the deadly incident.
Laura was a founding band member in 1989 alongside Martie Maguire, Emily Strayer, and Robin Lynn Macy. She left the band in 1995 with mixed reports as to what happened behind the scenes.
She left the band after RobinAlongside Robin, Laura brought a strong vocal sound to the group. The band struggled at first to get support in the industry as a fully female band, but snagged some early financial backing from Penny Cook, senator John Towner's daughter. After Robin's departure, Laura stepped up as the sole vocalist for the group.
However, under the new arrangement, the band struggled to grow their fanbase. When Laura was replaced, there were questions about if she was planning to leave or if there were concerns with their relations to the record label. In the end, Laura insisted she didn't regret leaving the band.
The Chicks reached breakthrough commercial success after Laura's departure with support from music industry executives. After leaving an undeniable impact on country and folk music, they went on hiatus. Alongside a comeback, they dropped the word "Dixie" from their original name of "The Dixie Chicks" as a result of the racist implications of the word. Often, the word referred to states associated with the Confederacy.
