The tallest rollercoaster in the UK is just one of the exciting new attractions to be unveiled at UK theme parks in 2024.

Thorpe Park, Alton Towers, Legoland and Drayton Manor all have big plans for the coming year, including new coasters and a beloved one which is returning after eight years away.

They come off of the back of an exciting year for UK theme parks, with some highlights including the World of Jumanji at Chessington World of Adventures, as well as Duel and sub-Terra at Alton Towers. Here are some of the highlights to look out for next year.

Hyperia, Thorpe Park's latest mega coaster is due to open to the public in 2024. The ride will take thrill-seekers up 72m above the ground, a full 10m higher than the towering Stealth. It is also 2m higher than the current tallest roller coaster in the UK - the Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Riders are then plunged down towards the ground at a frightening 80mph. Thorpe Park has claimed that riders will "twist like never before" and "feel weightless" when they strap themselves onto the ride next year. "Once you've experienced Hyperia you'll never fear again," the Surrey amusement land has promised.

Work began on the ride in January, which will have three inversions including an 'Immelman' - an unusual feature which involves a hill climb followed by a half loop and a half twist.

Before October the new rollercoaster had been known only as Project Exodus, with Thorpe Park releasing some glimpses of its gold and black track. The name Hyperia partly comes from the fact it is a hypercoaster, which is defined as a continuous-circuit roller coaster with a height or drop measuring greater than 200 feet.

Alton Towers

The big planned update at Alton Towers for 2024 is the reopening of Nemesis. The coaster takes riders on a heart-pounding journey with a g-force of 3.5 and top speed of 50mph. It is inked in to start whirring again with a changed colour from white to black, with red veins snaking along its length.

The transformation will see the entire 250-tonne, 716-metre-long track replaced piece by piece over the coming months, with each track element travelling 4,000 miles from Ohio back to the Resort in Staffordshire.

Following the track arrival and as work on the site gets underway, fans will be able to watch the developments from a custom-built viewing platform, overlooking the construction area. Up to 30 people at a time can get a glimpse of what’s to come, ahead of the rollercoaster's returning next year. It will have been closed for eight years at that point.

Legoland

Legoland has unveiled a new ride which promises to be the theme park's fastest yet. The Windsor Resort is soon to open Minifigure Speedway to the public. From Spring 2024 the duelling coaster will see Team Legends and Team Allstars cars race forwards and in reverse against one another to determine who is the winner.

The ride reaches speeds of 34mph and is inspired by the Speedway circuits. It features state-of-the-art technology and a dynamic dual-track layout, which cost £10m to develop. The attraction is manufactured by Zierer and is currently under construction at the Legoland Windsor Resort.

There will be new accommodation at the park in the form of Woodland Village. Visitors will be able to enjoy a tranquil family stay in your very own woodland retreat from May 2024. If you've not been to the park in a while then you'll also be able to tee-off at the space themed Adventure Golf course which recently opened at Legoland.

Chessington World of Adventures

Chessington has put forward proposals to add a water park to the its current Theme Park, Zoo, SEALIFE and Accommodation offering. It is likely to be a similar setup to Alton Towers Waterpark in Staffordshire, centred around a wave pool, infinity pool, waterslides and an outdoor ‘lazy’ river.

The water park would be open all year round, Attractions Near Me reports. It is not yet clear when the water park will open.

Drayton Manor

Drayton Manor Resort has announced it is working on a new family-friendly thrill coaster that will open in 2024. The lift and launch coaster will open in 2024 and will be the parks first since 2011. The new ride forms part of a multimillion-pound investment plan.

The Staffordshire Theme Park has begun work on the new roller coaster, following the removal of the Apocalypse drop tower ride.

Paulton's Park

New for 2024 at the Hampshire theme park is Splash Lagoon, a Jurassic water boat adventure for junior thrill-seekers. Riders can traverse gentle rapids, discover new species of Dinosaur and finally hold on for an exciting drop as they descend into the prehistoric lagoon below. The ride is due to open in May 2024.
