Mum shares kid's hilarious experiment to figure out if Santa is real
Asking your kids to write a letter to Santa is an easy way to find out what they want for Christmas, and keep the magic alive for as long as possible. However, one mum has revealed her son has taken it upon himself to discover if the Big Guy exists by performing an ingenious experiment.
Taking to social media to share her predicament, Dorie, a PhD candidate wrote: “I’ve been begging my 9 year old to write out his Christmas wish list. He refuses. He finally admitted that he’s conducting an experiment to find out if Santa is real. He whispered his wish list aloud in an empty room because Santa, and no one else, could hear it.”
She finished her comment by writing: “Send help.” Dorie followed her posts on X, formerly Twitter, adding: “For whatever it’s worth, he’s never really believed in Santa for as long as I could remember. But now he wants *evidence* to back up his claim.”
One clever person suggested: “You could hit him with a Pascal's wager. ‘If Santa is not real, do you also want to risk not getting what you want for the holiday?’ Or suggest that Santa is old and might have misheard, so a backup list might help.”

Mum's touching gesture to young son who died leaves Morrisons shopper in tearsHowever, one Scrooge replied: “Why do people do this? I don't understand. Whats the endgame? Why do parents want kids to believe so long? I truly don't get it. **Santa isn't actually real**” Responding to this, Dorie replied: “If you read the whole thread, he’s never really believed in Santa, and I’m ok with that! I’m more in love with his scientific approach and desire for evidence. He’s such a cool kid and his curiosity inspires me.”
Someone else joked: “I just know he’s not even asking for normal stuff either. He’s probably asking for a shrimp deveiner or a case of artichokes to make sure it came from his specific request!”
Other people applauded Dorie’s parenting style. One wrote: “Congrats on raising an amazing kid! (coming from someone who as a child asked if we could put Elijah's wine in a measuring cup so I could see if he actually drank it during Passover)”
And another X user replied: “Good to know the future generation of researchers is already out there questioning things (and driving their parents round the twist!). No help, sorry… my Spawn did something similar last year… we botched the whole thing *lol*”
