Craig confirms Strictly future after fears he'd quit after crying on BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has confirmed he will return to the show in 2024.

The 58-year-old TV star sparked alarm during the final episode of the 2023 season when he broke down in tears - with the uncharacteristic behaviour fuelling speculation he was planning to quit the long-running BBC dance show. And hours after the last episode of the 2023 season aired, reports emerged to claim the judge was quitting Strictly for good.

But now Criag has stepped forward to reassure his fans that he will be back to return to his judges seat after all - warning fans not to pay attention to rumours he is going to leave. Craig is currently taking to the stage in Wimbledon to star in a pantomime production of Cinderella where he is playing the Wicked Stepmother.

During Friday’s edition of This Morning, former Big Brother contestant Kate Lawler met with Craig as he prepared to go on stage for a matinee performance. While Craig was applying make-up for his stage performance, 43-year-old Kate confronted the star about those Strictly exit rumours.

Kate asked: “Are we going to see you on Strictly next year?” And hitting out at the speculation, Craig said: “Yes you are! I’m definitely coming back. Don’t believe any of those vicious rumours, no.”

Kate, relieved, gasped: “Oh, thank goodness for that!” Craig did, however, go on to suggest fans won’t see him skipping across the stages of theatres in the future. He said: “I might hang up my dancing shoes just on the stage, and go towards direction, but that’s about it.”

Kate then gleefully affirmed: “We’ve got confirmation! He’s on Strictly next year. All right!” Craig himself then triumphantly punched the air as he nodded along to the happy news - which will no doubt delight his fans.

Indeed, fans flooded X/Twitter with positive responses, with one writing: "YAY! Craig Revel Horwood has just confirmed on #ThisMorning that he WILL be back on #Strictly next year. Great question @katelawler!" And another wrote: "Fab u lous, Craig!"

While Craig may be back for Strictly in 2024, he has previously hinted he will exit the show at the end of the season. He has previously hinted he doesn’t want to be a judge on the series when he is 60.

The star is due to turn 59 in January - which would start a countdown clock to his Strictly exit. He said in September this year: “I’ll do that when I’m 60, hang up my shoes and enjoy life. But I’m working hard while I can, especially as I love what I do. It keeps me on my toes, darlings! I’m now the same age as the late, great Len Goodman was when he first started - that’s scary, isn’t it?!”
