A man has been spared jail after knocking his own mum's teeth out when a "red mist descended" on him.

Elliot Stemburski, of Aintree Road, Blackpool, launched a violent attack on his mother during an argument at home, pushing her against the wall and punching her in the face.

His horrified siblings watched on as the 22-year-old continued punching his terrified mum, causing her teeth to fall out.

Months later, the woman said she still thinks about the incident "every day" and her injuries serve as a constant reminder of what her son did to her.

Stemburski's mother and other family members were forced to give evidence in court after he tried to deny what he had done and took the matter to trial, LancsLive reports.

He was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Preston Crown Court and returned for sentencing on Friday (January 6).

But the attacker escaped jail after the judge, Recorder Martine Snowdon, was told that he'd made efforts to combat his anger problems since the attack on November 18, 2021.

The court also heard that he had no prior offences and had not offended since the incident.

Prosecuting, Holly Nelson, told the court that Stemburski had been living with his mum when the assault took place.

She said that during the incident his mother had been downstairs when she heard an argument upstairs and went to try and calm the situation.

She repeatedly asked her son to calm down before telling him to leave the house because of how angry he was.

Stemburski then retreated to his room, where his mum heard him punching and banging the door, before he charged out aggressively and pushed her chest, causing her to fall into a wall and hit her head on the doorframe.

The woman made attempts to get away and threw an empty pint glass over her shoulder, which didn't hit Stemburski.

Describing the horrifying details of what happened next, Ms Nelson said: "After this, he punched her several times to the face. She recalls facing him, at which point he punched to the mouth. She experienced excruciating pain and believes this is when her teeth fell out."

In a victim personal statement summarised by Ms Nelson, the woman said the attack has left her suffering every day.

She said: "The incident affected me physically and mentally as well as my children. I think about it every day, I had bruises all over my body and still have headaches."

The woman can't afford to pay for new teeth and said she feels "gutted and embarrassed" when she sees her reflection, which has left her reluctant to leave the house as well as self-conscious during video calls with friends.

She also said she no longer wants her son to come near her and doesn't know what happened to the person she raised.

Defending, John Woodwood said Stemburski was "sofa surfing" after the incident, but was now living with his partner and their two young children.

He claimed that he never set out to hurt his mum, but that there was "an awful lot of red mist descending, an awful lot of pent-up frustration in one incident"

Mr Woodwood said that his client regretted putting his family through a trial and that he has since taken voluntary anger management courses and counselling.

Stemburski was handed an 18-month sentence, suspended for two years.

He was also given a two-year restraining order and compelled to complete 35 days of rehabilitation activity as well as 200 hours of unpaid work.
