A former royal butler who knew Kate and Prince William from their dating years has said they are like the late Queen and her late husband Prince Philip for a very sweet reason.

Grant Harrold said the pair are a "good team" and made the comments at an etiquette dinner hosted. He even suggested that it was similar to history repeating itself. He described the Prince and Princess of Wales as "best friends" and how that is their secret being a "partnership".

Mr Harrold told HELLO!: “The thing about William and Kate is that they very much remind me of the late Queen and Prince Philip because they were a team, they were a partnership, and the two of them are very much like that.”

He added: "The two of them are very much best friends and make a good team. They have a really good sense of humour. When there are jokes, they're both involved in it, and they are always fun to be around. When one of them got the giggles, the other got the giggles. So it was really sweet.”

It comes as the pair recently attended the Royal Variety Performance alongside Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel, following their official meeting on November 30.

The Royal Variety Performance is now in its 111th year - having first been performed way back in 1912, with King George V and Queen Mary attending. The 2023 performance was recorded on Thursday, November 30 at London's Royal Albert Hall but shown on TV on Sunday. Viewers saw spectacular performances including a medley of songs from Disney’s West End shows The Lion King, Hercules, Frozen, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast, as well as music moments from Paloma Faith, Rick Astley and Zara Larsson.

According to an expert, Princess of Wales eased the nerves of Prince William during the Royal Variety Performance.

On the Royal Variety Performance, : "Kate and William's laughter is completely genuine. William touched his tie briefly, and while this can be a gesture of reassurance, William may have done this as he was feeling nervous with the attention being on him.

"But Kate's presence by his side put him at ease, as the nerves didn’t take over. Apart from that, they both enjoyed themselves. There were no signs of them faking any of their emotions. They wanted to be there and they could fully let go. It was a very natural appearance from the both of them."
