Three "young" children are in hospital after a woman was cut from her car following a crash.

Merseyside Police were called to Hoole Road in Woodchurch, Wirral, at around 5pm on Monday following reports of a two car crash. Officers found a red Ford Fiesta, with two people inside, and a white Hyundai i10, with four occupants, that had collided.

Fire crews helped free one woman who was trapped inside the Hyundai by cutting off the roof of the car. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment along with a child who suffered serious injuries and two other kids who had minor injuries.

A 22-year-old man from Upton was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was taken to a police station in Merseyside where he remains in custody. Hoole Road, Grasswood, Pemberton Road and Ferry Brow have been closed while CCTV enquiries are being carried out and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
