Love Island's Indiyah hit with furious backlash over 'cruel' Bali holiday photos

Indiyah Polack has been hit with a furious backlash from fans after posting photos from her birthday holiday to Bali.

The Love Island star turned TV and podcast host was whisked away by boyfriend Dami Hope, who she met on the ITV2 dating show, to celebrate turning 25 this month. But not everyone was happy with pictures she took at an elephant sanctuary on the Indonesian island.

In a carousel of pictures on Instagram, Indiyah and Dami were pictured kissing in front of an elephant as Indiyah held on to the animal’s trunk. In another snap she posed in a straw hat and tassled skirt and matching bikini top with an elephant in shot.

A third image shows her hosing down one of the elephants and a short video clip shows Indiyah feeding an elephant as a man sits on top. However, fans were quick to take to the comments to call her out for supporting the “unethical sanctuary” – with some even saying they were unfollowing her over it.

One wrote: “This is an unethical sanctuary, the riding, the scar, the skinny legs. Please do your research before visiting sanctuaries and posting it everywhere.” Another fumed: “These elephants are so clearly abused, the scar on the back leg suggests being chained and there are reports of abuse from the park online, really sad to see you support and advertise this.”

A third commented: “Elephant riding is so cruel. Even though you didn’t do it, promoting it is supporting it and growing the cruelty against poor animals.” A fourth chimed in: “Agree with all comments. Bali doesn’t have any ethical elephant sanctuaries. The pictures aren’t cue when animals have suffered for them. Disappointed with these photos.” While a fifth added: “Unfollowed you supporting somewhere that clearly abuses animals. Anywhere that rides elephants is abusive.”

The Mirror has reached out to Indiyah’s reps for further comment on this story.

Boyfriend Dami has been pulling out all the stops on the luxury holiday – including organising a huge floral tribute to spell out the words ‘Happy 25th birthday Indiyah” in what looked like thousands of flowers. He also organised for Indiyah’s family to join them on a trip in a secret surprise and splashed out on lavish meals.

If that wasn’t enough, the 27-year-old microbiologist from Dublin is said to have splashed out on a stunning Van Cleef bracelet, which can cost up to £27,000, as well as a bag filled with expensive birthday goodies.

One of Love Island’s most successful couples, Dami and Indiyah recently celebrated their one-year anniversary and Indiyah has been dropping hints an engagement could be the next on the cards.

Back in September, Indiyah was asked what her future plans were and told the Mirror: "Oh, don't know maybe a nice car, nice ring," teasing hopes for a possible engagement someday soon.

While she may be ready for Dami to get down on one knee, she insisted she isn't ready to become a parent just yet and said: "No babies for now, but maybe we can do cats and . We can do a house... marriage. I'm into both [cats and dogs] I am more on the cat side, like a big fluffy version."
