Strictly Come Dancing fans 'not happy' as they spot 'unfair' moment during final

Strictly Come Dancing fans claimed they were 'not happy' on Saturday night as they spotted an 'unfair' moment during the final.

The hit BBC One dance show aired its highly-anticipated final on Saturday night as Ellie Leach, Layton Williams and Bobby Brazier took to the dancefloor for the last time with their professional partners.

During the episode, where Ellie, 22, and Vito Coppola were later crowned the 2023 winners, the three celebrities performed three spectacular routines - a favourite dance, show dance and judges' pick in a bid to lift the Glitterball trophy.

The judges - Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas - gave their scores but the winner was down to the viewers' vote. During the show ahead of the result, Ellie and Vito performed a Jennifer Lopez Megamix as their show dance while Layton and Nikita Kuzmin performed Friend Like Me by Ne-Yo as their show dance.

However, Ellie and Vito sadly had a hiccup at the end of their routine during a tricky lift while Layton and Nikita had a slight blunder with their top hat props during their dance. With the scoring, Layton and Nikita received three 10s and one nine, whereas Ellie and Vito got four nines.

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to complain that it was unfair that Ellie was penalised for her mistake whereas Layton wasn't. One person said: "Ellie makes a mistake and gets 9s. Leyton makes mistakes and gets 10s", a different account put: "10’s with mistakes????? Seriously not happy. #Strictly" while another viewer wrote: "So are the judges going to give 9’s for that because Nikita dropped the hat? Y’know, as it was a mistake at the end. Just how they justified giving Ellie 9’s for her mistake? #Strictly."

However, another viewer pointed out: "Loved Layton and Nikitta showdance. Yes Nikitta dropped the hat but I don't believe the contestant should be marked down for a pros mistake. Just my opinion though #Strictly." Yet despite Ellie and Vito's lower marking due to the mistake, the duo were crowned the 2023 winners later in the show.
