Hilarious photos show the moment a "cheeky" pensioner was granted her wish for a male stripper to celebrate her 102nd birthday.

Monica Ruddick, from Wolsingham, County Durham, had just two requests to mark her special day, a visit to church and a strippergram, which is a novelty message delivered by someone who offers a striptease.

The pensioner, who worked in a canteen during the Second World War, partied in style with a huge turnout at West Lodge Care Home in Crook. She visited church to "celebrate the joy of life" last week.

But for her second wish, she got ready for a private performance in her room and said: "I've got the baby oil". Adam Price, whose wife volunteers at the care home, offered the 102-year-old a strip tease on the afternoon of her birthday. "Apparently she likes a man in uniform," he told The Northern Echo. "I'm glad to make her day."

After the show, she approved of his performance and said "he'll pass." The huge birthday bash included dancing and tasty cake. The sweet pensioner never got married or had any children but "dedicated" her life to helping others. Monica retired when she was 62. However, she continued her role as her brother's caregiver until he was 92.

Gillian Hannah, who works at the care home, revealed that Monica only moved in last year. She said: "From looking after 'naughty boys' in a boys' home to supporting a woman in a TB centre, she worked tirelessly through the war in a canteen and spent 25 years helping nuns in a convent. Monica is a living witness to history, having seen four kings and one queen on the throne."

She continued: "Her incredible journey has been fuelled by a spirit of resilience and a unique philosophy of life - to live it to the fullest, surrounded by the love and support of family and friends. She firmly believes that laughter is a must in life. Monica wanted a birthday celebration that combined the unexpected - a strippergram for her cheeky side and a visit to the church to celebrate the joy of life."
