Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has urged his former side to steer clear of a swap deal with Borussia Dortmund involving Jadon Sancho and Donyell Malen.

Sancho's time at Old Trafford appears to be nearing its end after his dramatic fall-out with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag and United are open to cutting ties with the winger. The England international has not featured since late August after Ten Hag publicly called into question his effort levels in training.

It is growing increasingly clear that the £73million man is surplus to requirements and there are other areas of the squad that need to be addressed. United are the lowest scorers out of the top 15 in the Premier League and a new forward to help Rasmus Hojlund is high on Ten Hag's wishlist.

Malen has been identified as a potential option, given Sancho could head back to his former side as part of the same deal. The 24-year-old Dortmund striker spent two years of his youth career at United's rivals Arsenal, but failed to break into the first-team and make a competitive senior appearance.

Yorke has made clear that he feels Malen is not the answer to United's goalscoring issues, telling Instant Casino : "I’ve not seen much of Donyell Malen, but I know he’s scored a few goals in the Bundesliga.

"I haven’t seen enough of him to make a judgment on him, but he seems to be an alright player. United can’t waste money signing players who won’t improve the squad."

With that being said, Yorke is no fan of Sancho either and judging by his comments back in May of this year, he'd hardly be heartbroken to see the former Dortmund man depart. Speaking exclusively to Mirror Football on behalf of aceodds.com, Yorke claimed: "Yeah, it's one of a mystery, really.

"He had so much potential and hope for the likes of Manchester United. Huge investment, really did an amazing job when he was at Dortmund. So yeah, he's on borrowed time, I suppose, if you have to be fair in many respects. He hasn't really produced the goods that we expect him."

That time is seemingly all but up as United prowl the market looking for a replacement. It is unclear whether Ten Hag will follow Yorke's advice and snub a deal for Malen to look elsewhere in the coming window.
