Shady: Meghan Markle appears to pay tribute to Queen in colour-blocking outfit

Meghan Markle may have fled the Royal Family – but it appears she picked up a few style tips from Her Majesty, the Queen.

All eyes were on the Duchess of Sussex when she attended an event in support of her filmmaker friend, Misan Harriman. Dressed to impress for the occasion, Meghan slipped into an all-tan ensemble, made up of a smart blazer – from Valentino Garavani’s spring/summer 2022 collection – a turtleneck top and satin skirt.

Her eye-catching outfit could be seen as a sartorial nod to Queen Elizabeth II, who died aged 96 on September 8 last year. The late monarch really did reign supreme in the fashion department and was known to be a fan of colour-blocking.

She often doubled down on one colour and wasn’t afraid to wear it head to toe, from bold blue to buttercup yellow. Former actress Meghan, 42, who shares children Archie, four, and two-year-old Lilibet with husband Prince Harry, 39, often sticks to shades of brown.

Indeed, stylist Lucas Armitage theorised that the mum of two opts for camel tones whenever she wants to make a statement. In January 2020, she stepped out in a coppery jumper and matching skirt, shortly before she and Harry announced they were stepping down from their senior roles in the royal family.

This time around, Meghan slipped into her go-to tan number for a Netflix ‘do in honour of her pal Misan’s new film, The After, starring David Oyelowo. New photographs from the event, held in Montecito, California in November, show her on stage with Misan and Oyelowo.

Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry recently received a right tanning after being branded two of the year’s “biggest losers” in a Hollywood power ranking. The annual compilation from Hollywood Reporter labelled the pair one of the most major failures of 2023 following the cancellation of their podcast, as well as a takedown in an episode of South Park. “The Harry and Meghan brand swelled into a sanctimonious bubble just begging to be popped,” the publication wrote, adding that they failed “to cash in their celebrity status in the States.”
