The only festive treats we expect to see in shops right now are Roses, Christmas puds and Celebrations, but but B&M has other ideas.

The budget chain is already selling Easter eggs in its stores, despite the fact it's not until March 31, 2024, and December 25 hasn't even rolled around yet.

Staff wedged the sweet treats, including Creme Eggs, Mini Eggs chocolate bars, and Milky Bar mini eggs, in and amongst the Christmas selection boxes, confusing shoppers who wanted to grab some festive confectionary for their family and friends.

Easter a whopping 13 weeks and six days after Christmas, so you'd have to be seriously organised to be wanting the eggs already. Kiacsa Arnold spotted the Easter treats in her local store in Birmingham and she was fuming to see the Easter eggs in store already "among the Christmas chocolates."

Another shopper, Michael Purvis, noticed them in South Shields branch, Tyne and Wear, joking: "Merry Easter everyone." But despite the fact some saw it as funny, and not that much of a big deal, some took it really seriously, and were labelling the move as "terrible", with someone even pointing out that "we haven't even started with Christmas."

"Didn't know it was Boxing Day", another penned, with someone else saying: "What? Really? That's ridiculous." "Why is the world going so fast?", a social media user questioned.

This could all be part of a sneaky trick that supermarkets play, however. Dr. Cathrine Jansson-Boyd, a consumer psychologist from Anglia Ruskin University, has explained how shoppers think that by buying products in advance they are being "practical" but they actually end up spending more in the long run.

Speaking to the Mirror, she explained: "The reason why [supermarkets] do it is that often [the seasonal items] are on special offers. People are then thinking 'ooh but it's cheap now and if I buy them now, I can store them and keep buying things little by little, then I don't have to pay it all out at the point in time when perhaps I need to buy lots of it'.

"That's the reasoning for why they're doing it - in order to get the consumer to think it's practical for them. However, that is not why they're doing it - if you start buying mince pies in October because you want to put them away for December, you think 'ooh I'll have one' and then you have two and then you've eaten them and then you go and buy a new packet.

"Then as it's coming up to the festive period, you'll buy another one. So it's not because the shops want to start Christmas in October or Easter in January, it's just purely to get people to buy more and little by little you'll spend twice as much." The expert goes on to say that we often feel like we have to keep buying more of these items for ourselves and loved ones as "we've been conditioned for a long time to think that consumption is important" and it's very hard to change that view.

"You want to give the people you love as many things as possible to show that you care, because the items are the equivalent of importance and caring. We are conditioned, whether we like it or not, it's just the way life has gone and I think we need to become dematerialised and understand that material possessions are not important."

A spokesperson for B&M said: "Yes, you heard right - everyone's favourite bargain store has a decadent range of Easter chocolate now available to buy in-store. We're not yolking - and they're proving incredibly popular with customers. The winter period is a notoriously long and dark time of the year, so to help banish those blues and help customers stay sunny side up, B&M have released an egg-citing selection of chocolate treats early. So don't feel like you need to wait until Easter to crack on and treat yourself to one early - we won't judge."
