God of War Ragnarok Valhalla release time – here’s when the DLC drops
Travel through the realm of Valhalla as Kratos when the new God of War Ragnarok DLC arrives on PlayStation consoles later today.
Just when we thought Kratos was busy resting after the launch of PlayStation exclusive God of War Ragnarok last year, developer Sony Santa Monica unveiled a surprise at The Game Awards last week in the form of a new DLC. Called God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, the free update will see the titular god venture to the Norse gods’ heavenly realm to do battle, serving as an epilogue to the sequel’s main events. If you’re wondering when you can jump back in, we’ve got the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla release time to hand.
It's worth emphasising that this God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is indeed free, and will release on both platforms the game originally launched on: PS4 and PS5. This is markedly different to what happened with Horizon: Forbidden West’s DLC, Burning Shores, earlier this year, which was exclusive to the latter.
God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla – release time
The official God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla release time is 5pm GMT / 12pm EST / 9am PST on Tuesday, December 12, as confirmed by a PlayStation Blog post. This means you don’t have to wait much longer to find out what awaits Kratos in Valhalla. This release time is when the new update will be available to download on both PS4 and PS5 platforms for no extra charge. As revealed in the blog post, the new update mainly comprises a roguelike-style mode, in which Kratos can gain upgrades to face increasingly more difficult combat challenges.
Interestingly, although Kratos will keep his skill tree upgrades and existing gear equipped, God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla can be enjoyed by anyone at any time without the need to finish the story first. That said, seeing as the DLC serves as an epilogue that takes place after the base game’s events, we’d go ahead and suggest that you do complete the game’s main story before diving into this more challenge-based roguelike mode.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingGod of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is a different approach to the one Sony is taking with regards to the recently announced The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. That game also sees the addition of a roguelike mode called No Return except, in that instance, players will need to pay a £10 / $10 / AU$20 upgrade fee to experience it. When the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla release time arrives, however, players can rest easy knowing they can jump in freely, providing they already own the game.
