Manchester United are back in action on Tuesday when Bayern Munich travel to Old Trafford for a crucial Champions League clash.

Erik ten Hag's side, who were humbled 3-0 by Bournemouth at the weekend, must beat the German champions and hope Galatasaray's game with Copenhagen ends in a draw to qualify for the last 16 of the competition. Bayern have already progressed.

Although United's Champions League campaign isn't going well, many fans will remember their victory against Bayern in the 1999 final. Sir Alex Ferguson's side were losing 1-0 before Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came off the bench to score in added time.

But what are the 13 players who featured in that final for United doing today? Mirror Football has taken a look...

Peter Schmeichel

Schmeichel left United after their Champions League win and played for Sporting Lisbon, Aston Villa and Manchester City before retiring in 2003. He now works as a pundit, while his son Kasper plays for Anderlecht after winning the Premier League with Leicester.

Gary Neville

Neville continued playing for another 12 years and won countless more honours with United before hanging up his boots in 2009. He's now one of Sky Sports' most respected pundits and spent some time as England's assistant manager. He was also Valencia's boss.

Neville's time in Spain didn't go to plan, as he won just 10 games before being sacked. Yet his successful media career and property empire have softened the blow. The Overlap host is currently one of the Dragons on Dragons' Den, such is his business acumen.

Ronny Johnsen

Johnsen struggled with injuries after United's Treble triumphant and eventually joined Aston Villa in 2002 before spells with Newcastle and Valerenga in his native Norway. The 54-year-old is now pursuing a career in coaching and recently picked up his UEFA Pro Licence.

Jaap Stam

Stam was famously sold to Lazio in 2001, a decision which Ferguson later admitted his regret at. "At the time he had just come back from an Achilles injury and we thought he had just lost a little bit," said the United boss in 2007, as quoted by The Independent.

"We got the offer from Lazio, £16.5m for a centre-back who was 29. It was an offer I couldn't refuse. But in playing terms it was a mistake."

Stam played at the elite level for another six years, joining AC Milan in 2004 and Ajax two years later. The ex-defender has since moved into management and coached in England, the Netherlands and the United States. He memorably guided Reading the Championship play-off final in 2017, but they lost on penalties to Huddersfield.

Denis Irwin

At 33, Irwin was approaching the end of his playing career when United won the Treble. Yet he continued on for another five years, leaving the Red Devils for Wolves in 2002 and earning promotion to the Premier League the following May. Irwin moved into the media after hanging up his boots and does plenty of work for United's in-house team.

Ryan Giggs

Giggs remarkably continued playing for United for another 15 years after their Treble triumph and even took charge of four games after David Moyes was dismissed in 2014. The Welshman became the club's assistant manager when Louis van Gaal was appointed later that year but left Old Trafford when Jose Mourinho become the boss in 2016.

Giggs became the Wales manager in 2018 but stepped down from his position two years later. He is also a co-owner of League Two side Salford with fellow United legends Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, David Beckham and Paul Scholes.

David Beckham

Speaking of Beckham, the winger went on to play for Real Madrid, La Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain after leaving United in 2003. He won league titles in four different trophies before calling it a day in 2013. He's since become one of the biggest celebrities on the planet and co-owns Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, who Lionel Messi plays for.

Nicky Butt

Butt joined Newcastle in 2004 and went on to play in Hong Kong before moving into coaching. He spent nine years working in various roles within United's academy and was Giggs' assistant during his interim spell in charge. He's now Salford's CEO.

Jesper Blomqvist

Sadly for Blomqvist, he suffered a knee injury soon after the Champions League final and missed two years of football before Everton came calling in 2001. He went on to play for Charlton, Norwegian side Djurgarden and Swedish clubs Enkoping and Hammarby before calling time on his career in 2010. He's since opened his own pizzeria in Sweden.

"I did coaching and TV punditry," Blomqvist told The Sun in 2019. "I tried other things like travelling which is OK, but I never felt the real passion for it like I do for food."

Dwight Yorke

Yorke left United in 2002 and enjoyed spells with Blackburn, Birmingham City, Sunderland and Australian side Sydney FC. He's since worked in punditry and management, winning the Australia Cup with Macarthur FC last year. The ex-striker left Macarthur in January.

Andy Cole

Cole left United for Blackburn in 2001 and went on to play for Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth, Birmingham City, Sunderland, Burnley and Nottingham Forest before retiring in 2008. He now works as an ambassador for United and in punditry.

Teddy Sheringham

Sheringham famously came off the bench to score United's equaliser against Bayern and continued playing until the age of 42! He re-joined Tottenham - the club he left the Red Devils for - in 2001 and later played for Portsmouth, West Ham and Colchester.

Sheringham has managed Stevenage in England and ATK in India since hanging up his boots. He registered himself as a player for Stevenage in 2015 for a reserve game due to an injury crisis - aged 49! In 2020, Sheringham shocked fans by revealing himself as 'Tree' on The Masked Singer. He was given the boot in the fourth episode.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Solskjaer, who scored the winner against Bayern, spent the rest of his playing career at Old Trafford before moving into coaching in 2007. He spent time in charge of United's reserves and won several trophies to be given a chance in first-team management.

The ex-striker became the boss of Molde in 2010, where he won two league titles and one Norwegian Cup during a three-year spell in charge. He then joined Cardiff in 2014 but was sacked after just eight months following their relegation from the Premier League.

Solskjaer returned to Molde before United appointed him, initially on an interim basis, as Mourinho's successor in 2018. He did well during his three-year spell in the hot seat but failed to win silverware and was dismissed in 2021 to make way for Ralf Rangnick.

What about Paul Scholes and Roy Keane?

Keen observers will note that Scholes and Keane are yet to be named. That's because the legendary midfielders were both suspended for the win against Bayern.

Keane left United for Celtic in 2005 and became Sunderland's manager a year later, winning promotion to the Premier League in 2007. He left Sunderland in 2008 and spent 18 months in charge of Ipswich before working as the Republic of Ireland's assistant manager.

Keane now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, with Scholes doing the same for TNT Sports. Scholes hung up his boots in 2011 but made a comeback six months later. He retired for a second time in 2013 and had an unsuccessful seven-game spell in charge of Oldham.
