Jason Momoa slammed for 'rude treatment' of Nigella Lawson during The One Show

Jason Momoa has sparked an angry backlash from fans who criticised his 'rude and ignorant' behaviour towards Nigella Lawson.

Viewers tuned in to Monday night's The One Show slammed Jason for repeatedly turning his back on the celebrity chef as they sat together on the red sofa. Jason was on the show to promote his new movie Aquaman 2 where he appeared alongside Nigella and actor James Nesbitt.

However after chatting with the hosts, Jason proceeded to arch his body away from Nigella meaning his back was against her for large portions of the chat show. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans were quick to criticise his 'bad manners'.

"Jason Momoa sat with his back to Nigella the whole time on the sofa...so rude...Grace Jones slapped Russel Harty for that...quite right too," commented one fan. "Just switched on the telly. Why is Jason Momoa pointedly sitting with his back to Nigella Lawson??" another demanded to know.

"Very rude body language by Jason Momoa, putting his back to Nigella," agreed a third while another chimed in "Jason Momoa is being quite ignorant at times, especially when James Nesbitt is talking as he has his back to Nigella Lawson"

Others joked that there must be some pre-existing bad blood between the two, "What's Nigella done to upset Jason Momoa then?" joked another.

Jason has been on the publicity trail for his new movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The sequel to the 2018 movie has been plagued by controversy over the reduced role of actress Amber Heard.

Fans had questioned whether the move was down to a petition launched by Johnny Depp fans to axe Heard from the franchise which picked up over 4 million signatures on Change.org. Director James Wan has publicly denied this was the case and said the DC sequel was always going to have a stronger focus on Aquaman and his half-brother Orm joining forces rather than Aquaman and Heard's character Mera teaming up as they did in the first movie.

Shortly after the release of the original film, Heard became embroiled in a fierce defamation case with her ex husband Johnny Depp. In June 2022, a jury returned a verdict in Depp’s favour and he was awarded 10.3 million dollars (£8.43 million) for damage to his reputation.

Heard later sought to appeal against the verdict before she made the “very difficult decision” to settle her multimillion-dollar US defamation case against Depp.

Depp fans then paid court fees to enable the release of the notes from Amber Heard's therapist that were submitted as part of the trial - which exposed some of the actress' thoughts on the DC movie and it's creation. Heard alleged that her co-star Momoa was 'drunk on set', trying to get her fired and that director James Wan was getting frustrated with the publicity for the film - as the battle between his leading lady and her ex Johnny Depp made headlines around the world.

DC spokespeople said in response that “Jason Momoa conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’”, and that “James is known for treating members of his cast and crew with the utmost respect and for fostering a positive, collaborative environment on set — the ‘Aquaman’ films were no exception.”
