A stunning Grade II listed home which once graced the screens on Grand Designs is now up for grabs. This unique property, nestled in a World Heritage Site, offers buyers a chance to own a piece of history.

The Wheal Langford Engine House, a converted four-bedroom detached home, sits on the edge of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The house needs some finishing touches and comes with an additional engine house that has planning permission for conversion into holiday let accommodation, according to Cornwall Live. Originally a silver mine, Wheal Langford first opened its doors in 1824. The secondary Engine House is believed to be a rare internal beam engine building.

The location of this property lies on the south-facing slope of a tranquil, rural valley, surrounded by its own grounds and bordered by a charming stream, BristoLive reports. Plus, there are plenty of beautiful countryside walks right on its doorstep. Callington, a small historic market town in east Cornwall, saw significant growth during the 19th-century mining boom.

It's nestled between the A30 and A38, offering easy access to local schools and amenities in nearby towns like Launceston, Liskeard, and Tavistock. The quaint village of Calstock, where you can find river moorings, is just four miles from Wheal Langford Engine House. Dartmoor National Park, visible from the top floors of the property, is about 15 miles away.

This five-storey engine house has eco-friendly features too. There's a biomass boiler for hot water and central heating, and photovoltaic panels in the paddock that bring in around £1,800 each year. The main engine house has been transformed into a spacious home.

The top two floors offer views over miles of open countryside. The ground floor of the home includes an entrance hall, a shower room, a bedroom, and a kitchen that opens onto a large decked terrace. A unique wooden staircase leads to the lower ground floor where there's another bedroom with an en-suite.

The first floor has a bathroom with a free-standing bath and a fourth bedroom. The second floor features a sitting room with a modern wood-burning stove and doors leading to a large balcony. The property is on sale for more than £550,000 and all offers need to be in by noon on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Lillicrap Chilcott, the estate agent, said: "There are some finishing works required to achieve a final sign-off for Building Regulations, to complete the planning process on the main engine house. With this in mind, a purchaser should check the availability of a suitable mortgage prior to viewing."
