Move over Fred, Wilma, Pebbles and Bamm Bamm, it’s time to let other people enjoy caveman life in a home known as the Flintstones house.

Casa do Penedo, or the House of Stone, in Portugal gained the nickname owing to its bizarre rock look.

Built within four massive boulders, the home looks like something straight out of the town of Bedrock - although sadly without the dinosaurs coexisting side by side with humans.

Unlike the homes enjoyed by Fred and neighbour Barney Rubble, the home boasts bulletproof glass and doors as well as a swimming pool carved into the rock for people to keep cool, Mail Online reported.

It sits on top of the Fafe Mountains in the north of Portugal - around 80 miles from Porto- giving incredible views to those who climb to its 2,600ft perch and was recently turned into a museum.

Although a number of wind farms are nearby the house, it has no electricity.

As a result it has no television or phone but does have running water and a gas supply.

Photographer Ricardo Oliveira Mateus, 34, said: “It was built from four large boulders that serve as the foundation, walls and ceiling of the house.

“The house is fairly well equipped although there is no electricity it does have a fireplace and even a swimming pool which has been carved out of one of the large rocks.

“As a kid I got the chance to meet the owner of the house and to go inside the house for a few minutes - I remember being really impressed by the architecture and the magnificent view around it.”

Inside the furniture is made of logs, although the sofa was carved from concrete which would no doubt make the Flintstones feel at home.

The two storey home was built in 1974 with the view of creating it into a holiday home.

On its ground floor people will find a kitchen and living room while upstairs is its only bedroom.

Vítor Rodrigues, whose father designed and built the house, previously said: “We came from Guimarães to walk on Mount Fafe and stopped at its top.

“It rained a lot that day, we had to eat in the car and we stayed there for many hours, us, the three brothers and our parents.”
