Bournemouth hero Dominic Solanke had just one word for the spectacular way the Cherries stormed Old Trafford: “Magnificent”.

The former Liverpool striker scored the opening goal after just four minutes and bullied United’s defenders to help the Cherries win for the first time ever at the Theatre of Dreams. While it was a nightmare for Erik ten Hag’s men, Solanke was in raptures at Bournemouth ’s outstanding display.

“To win away at Old Trafford is touching for everyone really. One of the best stadiums in the world and one of the best clubs in the world so to come and win the boys are delighted," said Solanke. “I’d probably say it’s one of the best results in the club’s history and it shows the direction we are going in.

“I think we’ve been building a lot in the last few weeks. At the moment we’re feeling confident and like we can beat anyone and that showed today.

“It was just composure really. The stadium is magnificent. It's easy to get intimidated here but we kept our heads. We were confident on the ball, kept playing, attacked when we could and kept pressing through the whole game. We are just delighted to get the result.”

Jubilant boss Andoni Iraola, who captained Atletico Bilbao to a famous Europa League win at Old Trafford in 2012, added: “I didn’t talk about my game here as a player. It’s very difficult to win here in the way we did and we needed that complete performance.

“We trust our players, they are in a very good moment. We needed to be brave, not concede space and play on the transition and it was how we wanted to play."
