An airport worker was brutally killed after her flatmate and ex-partner became obsessed with her sex life and secretly spied on her, a court has been told.

Sheldon Rodrigues, 30, who was becoming increasingly possessive and jealous, is accused of killing Stephanie Hansen, 39. She had more than one sexual encounter with Rodrigues several years before but the victim had said she wanted no romantic involvement with him again – despite the fact she went on holiday with him and would still allow him to see her naked at the house.

However, jealous Rodrigues became so convinced he could hear her moaning as she had sex with her new lover that he planted bugs in their home in Hayes and listened in on her with Mr Cabillan, while he was visiting his relatives in Goa, India. Hansen had met her latest boyfriend Celcso Cabillan at work at Heathrow and they were having sex in her car and on her lunch breaks, the Old Bailey heard.

The court heard that Mr Cabillan had been married for 20 years, had three children and was living with his wife. However, in a series of WhatsApp messages read to the jury, Rodrigues accused her of having sex with Mr Cabillan. But she told him what he heard was the sound of magpies – and not her having an orgasm.

Rodrigues accused her of finding a new boyfriend and asked: "Could you have not waited 'til I come back before you find someone to sleep with? Ms Hansen replied: "We are not together. We can do what we want with our lives," and added: "Are you spying on me? I think its best you don't come back. You do not have a say in what I do in my life."

Rodrigues then referred to the "hogcam" they installed to watch hedgehogs in the garden. He texted her back: "The hogcam kept sending me notifications. When I checked I heard you moaning."

In fact he was using an old phone he had set up to bug the living room. "I told you from day one we are not together so how do you have the right to be annoyed," she said. "You are f*****g listening. F*** this. Enjoy your life."

She added: "Google that noise. It was not moaning," but he replied: "Stop telling me it was magpies. I know what sex noises sound like," adding: "Is it because he has got a bigger one than me? Is that what you are after? In time you will see I am the better option. Please give me a chance to prove myself. If I have to get rid of all the other men in the world I will do it."

The court heard Ms Hansen received texts from him about his undying love while she was sending messages to Mr Cabillan as they broke up and made up again. At one point she told Cabillan: "I'll make this easy for you. It's over. This fun you are having with my heart and my mind. It's over. You have a real life. I am just pretend."

She added: "I do not need your luck or your pity. I just want my heart back." Ms Hansen had told Mr Cabillan she was his "dirty little secret" as he tried to keep the affair secret from his wife. She was heartbroken that he continued to have sex with her and his wife. But he said: "What do you want me to do if she is asking for it at night. The problem with you is you are consumed with jealousy."

She replied: "I cannot handle being your 'as and when' and nothing more." The couple were both scared Mr Cabillan's wife would find out about their affair. But Ms Hansen reassured him that they did not actually go anywhere where they could be seen," adding: "We don't go out. We meet you f*** me."

In another message Rodrigues had begged to have sex one last time with Ms Hansen. "Can I we just do it for one last time. After that I will not ask you anything more," he said. But she repeatedly told him they were now just friends and housemates and he was "not her type".

She said: ''We should never have moved in. Big mistake. I should have looked for a small flat," whereby Rodrigues replied: "I wanted you to move in so I could look after you. My head is not letting me forget." A few weeks after he returned from Goa, Rodrigues spent an entire nightshift listening to the bug in the living room when he was supposed to be working as a cargo agent for Swissport at Heathrow airport.

Both Ms Hansen and Mr Cabillan worked there too. Rodrigues went home on his electric bike in a rage and battered and bludgeoned Ms Hansen to death in her pyjamas, it is claimed. He spent more than 24 hours in the house in Willenhall Drive, Hayes, with Ms Hansen's corpse after killing her in the early hours of December 30, 2022.

He then called an ambulance and tried to frame Mr Cabillan, jurors heard. In the call to the operator, he said: "I have just found my housemate's body. I have just been in her room. I have found her dead in there. I think her boyfriend has done something to her. He stayed here two nights ago. There is blood spattered all over the room as well."

Ms Hansen was found in her bloodstained bedroom wearing just her pyjama top. She had been subjected to a "vicious attack", stabbed at least 20 times and suffered 39 blunt-impact injuries, probably caused by a tower heating fan and hairdryer found in the bedroom. Traces of Rodrigues' DNA found on her lower stomach area are likely to have come from his semen, the court heard.

Rodrigues, of west London, denies murder. The trial continues.
