A man who was furious about a steakhouse refusing to pay out after he allegedly undertook an enormous food challenge has now been invited back to give it another go.

The Cattleman's Steakhouse in Devon claimed Dan did not take part in the contest having snubbed side salads, and he went on to lose the £50 prize money for demolishing the meat platter. He guzzled his way through a 20oz rump steak, 12oz gammon, four sausages, three chicken wings, a chicken breast and a 6oz cheeseburger - but because he left the side salad, he failed.

This is despite understanding the the sides are part of the contest, which needs to be done within one hour, The Daily Star reports. The steakhouse shared photos of Dan conquering the silver platter of meat having left the salad and mushrooms. But TikTok users are up in arms about the decision, after it was revealed how close Dan had come to completing the challenge.

Annoyed TikTok users were quick to hail Dan as a winner, with some claiming the steakhouse was "taking the p**s" and the salad "shouldn't be there". However some users questioned why Dan couldn't "grow up" and stomach the salad to pocket the £50 prize and avoid paying the hefty sum for failing.

Others were not so sympathetic, with one saying: "So you're telling me he munched all of that but when it got the salad he tapped out. Yeah, get a grip."

The owner Gary King defended the restaurant's reaction, and reiterated that the challenge really is about being able to "eat everything". He claims the mixed grill's success rate is just 10 per cent despite around 80 people attempting it since it debuted on his menu 10 months ago.

Gary said: "It's simple. It's a challenge and the challenge is to eat and clear everything, otherwise it wouldn't be a challenge. Had he said to us that he didn't want any salad then we'd have put a few more chips or onion rings on. He didn't say anything at the start or while he was eating it. His exact words were 'I know it's stupid but I'm not going to eat that salad. Not even for £50 because I don't eat salad'.

"I felt sorry when I saw the pictures because if I'd have spoken to him beforehand then he may well have said he didn't want salad. Once it's on that table, that's it. there's no point in telling us afterwards because we're not going to strip the salad off and give him a bowl of chips and a bowl of onion rings, are we?

Yet just 24 hours after blowing up, the man has been invited to give it all another go. Writing on Facebook, Gary said: “As the owner of Cattlemans Steakhouse, I can assure you he could have swapped the salad for some extra chips/onion rings. . . also Dan totally understood that he did not complete the challenge and left happy.

“We will be inviting him back to have another go – let's sort SALADGATE out once and for all.” But Dan is yet to respond to the invitation to give the challenge another go.
