The Premier League is quickly heading into the infamously hectic Christmas period.

With plenty to play for at both ends of the table, the next few months will prove pivotal to how the rest of the season pans out. However, managers will be racking their brains over how to negotiate the next few weeks injury free.

A number of Premier League stars have been struck down with a series of long-term issues throughout the opening months of the season. In fact, there are enough injured players to make a series of teams.

Mirror Football has had a go at building the best XI of those players we may not see at any point over the festive fixture pile-up.

We start with the most recent addition to the treatment table: Newcastle keeper Nick Pope. The former Burnley man was injured during the Magpies’ slender 1-0 win against Man United at the weekend.

It has since been revealed that he will be ruled out for the next few months with a dislocated shoulder. Newcastle are on the lookout for potential replacements and have been linked with signing David de Gea on a free transfer.

Moving into defence, one of the Spaniard’s former teammates plays a key role. Lisandro Martinez has been an impressive signing since his arrival from Ajax but is not expected to return until mid-January due to an ankle injury.

He is partnered in the heart of defence by Spurs’ impressive Dutchman Micky van de Ven. He only arrived in North London in the summer from Wolfsburg but looks set to be out until at least next month.

One of his countrymen Jurrien Timber also suffered even worse fortune following his arrival in the Premier League. Having signed for Arsenal from Ajax, he injured his cruciate ligament so appears unlikely to play at any further point this season.

On the left side is Liverpool star Andrew Robertson. The Scottish defender underwent surgery for a shoulder issue back in October, with Kostas Tsimikas replacing him for the time being.

In midfield, Robertson’s current teammates is also suffering the misfortune of a long-term injury. Spanish playmaker Thiago Alcantara has not played since early October and looks set to stay on the sidelines until at least the New Year.

He is partnered by Manchester United star Casemiro. The Brazilian had been struggling for form earlier this season before picking up a thigh issue.

Elsewhere, two of the best creators in the Premier League are still waiting to make their comebacks. England star James Maddison picked up an ankle issue in Spurs’ defeat to Chelsea last month and still faces a few weeks on the sidelines.

Kevin De Bruyne has appeared just once in the Premier League this season due to a hamstring injury suffered on the opening day of the campaign. Like many players on this list, he is hopeful of making a return to action after New Year.

Moving into attack and two talented forwards are currently spending time in the treatment room. Callum Wilson has proven an inspired signing for the Magpies and had been in bright form this season before picking up a hamstring injury.

Ansu Fati has also impressed since arriving to the Premier League from Barecelona. He already has four goals in 14 outings for Brighton but is set to be out for three months and missed his first game in the Seagulls’ defeat to Chelsea.

Premier League injured XI: Pope (Newcastle); Timber (Arsenal), Van de Ven (Tottenham), Martinez (Manchester United), Robertson (Liverpool; Thiago (Liverpool), Casemiro (Man Utd), Maddison (Tottenham), De Bruyne (Manchester City), Fati (Brighton).
