Flight attendant warns passengers against drinking coffee served during flights
A flight attendant has revealed exactly why you should never drink coffee on an airplane, with people saying it has left them ‘traumatised’. Sharing a video on social media, a man named Kevin explained that he works for a US-based airline company as a cabin crew. The TikToker regularly makes posts about the perks of his job but after spotting a recent Reddit thread felt compelled to disclose some of the bad points.
The post read: “Flight attendants, what’s the dirty little secrets of your industry?” Going over some of the comments other people had left, he revealed that he was ‘crying’ over some of them.
One person, who claimed to be a pilot, had replied on the thread advising that passengers should never drink tea or coffee on a flight. They responded: “The water tanks on airplanes are rarely, if ever, cleaned and they use this water to make coffee on board. I don’t want to think about the mold and bacteria growing in those tanks.”

Replying to the comment, Kevin agreed, telling his followers: “Airplane coffee: Yes I agree. I think it's disgusting.” However, he then added that he believed that water used in the coffee was actually the least of people’s problems. He went on: “For me, it’s the way flight attendants have to clean out the coffee pots. For whatever reason, we’re not supposed to empty coffee pots in drains, we’re supposed to dump it down toilets.

“So when dumping it down the toilet, in order not to make a huge mess, you have to get quite near the toilet and I imagine there is some sort of backsplash of particles, bacteria, or whatever, which goes into the coffee pot that goes back into the coffee maker.” He finished by adding that unless the airline you’re travelling with has an espresso machine, don’t drink the coffee.
After watching Kevin’s TikTok, people were shocked by his revelations and rushed to share their horror at the news. One person wrote: “Every single day my OCD is justified.” Someone else added: “Sir, thank you for your service never drinking airplane coffee again!”
A former flight attendant in the comments chimed in: “I'm a former flight attendant - I don’t take any drink from the cart especially not with ice - ice trays are at exact height of people’s mouths for coughing/sneezing.” And a fourth viewer penned: “I always cringe when I see people order coffee on a plane. Like this has been out there for a while.” While another person stated: “I'm traumatised.”
