Love Island's Liberty Poole lashes out at 'dangerous' cosmetic surgery trends
Liberty Poole has hit out at a ‘dangerous’ celebrity surgery trend and encouraged fans to embrace their natural beauty instead.
The 24-year-old Love Island star said she isn’t a fan of a BBL, which stands for Brazilian Butt Lift and is favoured by the likes of The Only Way Is Essex and Geordie Shore stars, as well as Katie Price.
BBL procedures involve fat being taken from your stomach, hips, lower back or thighs to the buttocks. Doctors remove the fat using liposuction and then inject it into the bum area to give more of an hourglass-shaped figure.
Celebs who have admitted having the procedure include TOWIE star Dani Imbert, who flew to Turkey to get it done. She decided to have the op after saying her bum felt like a ‘pancake’ and she wanted to fill it out a bit. But the reality star said she felt like she was at “death’s door” afterwards and was “swollen for weeks” and “crying every day”.

But I think BBLs because they are so dangerous and I hear so many horror stories about them. I’m not a fan. I think people should embrace the bodies they are born in.”

After feeling insecure about her body in the Love Island villa, Liberty is keen to embrace her curves and has vowed to stop editing her snaps on social media. Spreading a body-positive message, she told fans: “I want to spread this positive message about self-love and acceptance.”
She said the trend of “changing your figure or your skin tone” in pictures was “so toxic”, that she is using her platform to plead with other influencers to show “what we actually look like” rather than hiding insecurities behind filters.
Meanwhile, TOWIE Yazmin Oukhellou also had the procedure in Turkey in 2020 but later described it as “traumatic” and said: “I hadn't really seen how dangerous the procedure was until after I had it done."
Geordie Shore star Sophie Kasaei revealed she's had BBL surgery, also in Turkey, which left her with a physical scar and what she believes to be PTSD. “I thought I was going to die. For months while it healed I had a hole in my bum and unfortunately, it left a huge scar too... it was an awful time.”
One of the most famous celebs to have BBL surgery is Katie Price. But although she is thought to have had over 20 procedures since she was 18, getting the BBL op is the one the now 45-year-old regrets most. “I absolutely hated it. I hate having a big bum. It was the worst thing I ever did!” she told New magazine. Not long after having it done, Katie had the surgery reversed.
A 31-year-old British woman, Melissa Kerr, died from having BBL surgery in November 2022, which prompted the coroner to write to the health secretary over concerns about people having cosmetic surgery overseas and not being informed of the risks. The report said there had also been a “high number of patient deaths in similar circumstances”.
