Meghan Markle's estranged dad admits there's something 'unusual' about race row

Meghan Markle's estranged father Thomas Markle has described the current silence from the Duke and Duchess of Suessex as "unusual".

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry - as well as the entire Royal Family - have maintained their silence since the Royal race row was reignited after King Charles and the Princess of Wales Kate were named in the Dutch version of Omid Scobie's new book Endgame. And now Meghan's father - whom she has reportedly not spoken to since 2018 - has told of his surprise at her silence over the matter.

"Here we have another letter from my daughter which has somehow made it into the public domain. Another letter? Again?" he said.

After a series of issues between the Sussexes and Meghan's father, Meghan and her dad are no longer on speaking terms with one another, and have reportedly not been in contact for almost five years now. In Prince Harry and Meghan's Netflix tell-all docuseries "Harry & Meghan" released in December of last year, the pair opened up about the strained relationship. Prince Harry described the situation as "incredibly sad" and said he has shouldered the blame for their disconnection.

Talking to the Daily Mail, Mr Markle added: "The fact that Harry and Meghan have not publicly distanced themselves from this strikes me as unusual."

The Royal Family were said to be “united in outrage” after the King and Princess of Wales were dragged into the royal race row and named in the Dutch version of the new explosive book. Omid appeared on ITV ’s This Morning programme earlier this week to confirm an investigation had begun at the publishers responsible for translating his book into Dutch, but denied including the identities of the two senior royals in his manuscript. Speaking of his frustration of the scandal that has sent shockwaves through the monarchy, Mr Scobie laid the blame squarely on the publisher in the Netherlands, saying: “I never submitted a book that had those names in it.”

The Dutch translator who worked on the book insisted the titles of the King and Princess of Wales were in the manuscript she was sent. Saskia Peeters claimed she did not add the names to the Dutch version of the book. Speaking from her home in Arnhem, she said: “As a translator, I translate what is in front of me. The names of the royals were there in black and white. I did not add them. I just did what I was paid to do and that was (to) translate the book from English into Dutch.”

Xander, the publishers, released a statement which read: “Xander Uitgevers is temporarily withdrawing the book Eindstrijd by Omid Scobie from sale. An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified.”
