Footage has emerged showing the moment French police arrested the suspect in a Paris terrorist attack which left two injured and one dead.

A British tourist was among those attacked from behind with a hammer while walking through Paris with his family and left badly hurt, but survived. A 60-year-old Frenchman was also attacked, and a German national was killed in the terror attack last night (Saturday December 2) by a suspect named in French media as Armand R.

A 26-year-old French national, who was released from prison in 2020, has been arrested. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said he was “ready to kill others”, adding that he was shouting "Allahu Akbar" while carrying out the attacks. The attacker allegedly expressed anger at about Muslims dying and French complicity in the current violence in Gaza.

The footage, filmed by a by-stander sitting in a car, shows two French police walking towards the suspect and pointing their taser at him. The suspect is backing away and appears to have a knife in his hand, while wearing black clothing and a balaclava. In the moments after the video footage ends, the man was arrested.

The attack took place in the Quai de Grenelle, with Darmanin confirming it was mere “passers-by” who were assaulted. Armand R was born in Parisian suburb Neuilly-Sur-Seine, was under surveillance and undergoing psychiatric treatment at the time of the attack.

He was shot in the stomach twice by police with tasers, who were praised by Darmanin for their quick action in apprehending the suspect. "There would doubtless have been others dead” had they not responded so fast, he said.

The dead victim of the brutal attack was found between the 15th and 16th arrondissements on the Bir-Hakeim bridge. He had been stabbed in his back and shoulder, while the Brit had suffered a head injury after being subject to a hammer attack while walking with his wife and children.

Armand R was jailed in 2016 for planning a terrorism act - which he eventually abandoned - and was released in 2020. When taken into custody, he was lamenting "Muslims being killed in Afghanistan and Palestine" and stated that “France was complicit” in the massacre of thousands of Gazan Palestinians.
