A photographer who accidentally chose the wrong photo for his Christmas cards was left with 90 copies of a dental X-ray in a hilarious festive mishap.

Dan White, 33, used photo printing app Shutterfly - an app that allows users to select photos from their camera roll and add their own text, font and clipart - to design his own festive greeting cards. However, Dan was left in hysterics when his 90-pack of cards arrived on his doorstep with a major surprise.

Instead of a festive family portrait or snowy scene, the "Christmas card" showed an eerie-looking x-ray - hilariously surrounded by holly clipart. The writer said he originally decided on a family photo for loved ones - but thinks he may have selected a different image from the camera roll accidentally when he went to adjust the picture.

And in an even bigger twist of events, Dan claims that the X-ray isn't even his - but belongs to his neighbour, Mike. He joked that he had a copy of the X-ray as he wanted to show Mike's pearly whites as a reference to his dentist.

Luckily Dan - from Los Angeles, California - found the situation funny, but admits he remains at odds about what to do with the bizarre pack of greeting cards. And despite the costly mistake, he's vowed not to send out the Christmas cards with a picture of his neighbour's dentures regardless.

Taking to Twitter, formerly known as X, to share his festive mishap, Dan wrote: "Tried to use the Shutterfly mobile app to design my Christmas cards. Selected the wrong photo from my camera roll so now I have 90 of these."

In response to the hilarious blunder, Shutterfly replied: "Hi Dan. Oh no! We're so sorry to hear about your cards.

"Let's see what we can do to help today. Please send us a DM with your order number, email address, and the same details here so we can help! We look forward to hearing from you!"

Meanwhile, users on the social media platform were left in stitches. One user said: "The big question is, why do you have a photo of Mike next door's dental x-ray?", while another added: "Mike has very nice teeth." Another quipped: "Mike needs to extract his #18 and #38.”

Luckily for Mike, the X-ray appears to show a healthy set of teeth - but Dan said he thought his wife, Kelly was "going to kill him" over the blunder. Beneath the hilarious image, the card read, "Merry Christmas "The Whites."
