I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here host Ant McPartlin has sensationally hit out at speculation the show is ‘fixed’ as fans fumed over one of the stars seemingly receiving preferential treatment.

The 2023 season of the long-running ITV show has been pulling in weak viewing figures and has caused controversy by including politician Nigel Farage in the line-up. And while many in the UK are not fans of 59-year-old Farage, the unexpected ‘villain’ of the show has turned out to be 26-year-old YouTube star Nella Rose.

Nella caused outrage in the first week of the current season when she clashed with First Dates star Fred Sirieix, 51 when he said he was old enough to be her father. Nella argued that he had been offensive and inconsiderate because she had previously told him that her parents were dead.

Ever since the public has been relentlessly voting for her to take part in the trials - and many have been campaigning online to ensure she is voted off the show at the first available opportunity. However, some fans have claimed the show is fixed after Nella was taken out of the running for one trial after she suffered an injury and then was later voted camp leader by her co-contestants at a time when she was feeling run down by her experience on the show.

Voting for the camp leader was done in private, however, and cameras did show many of the contestants saying they wanted to vote for their unnamed choice because they had been struggling. Now Ant has hit out at the suggestion Nella’s crowing as camp leader was fixed by producers.

The star hit out, saying: “I saw a few people on social media say that it was obvious [that Nella was voted camp leader]. No, it wasn’t. It was a complete blind vote which they’ve done down there, it was completely up to the campmates.

"Not up to anybody here in production. They obviously enjoy her in camp and think that she needs to be camp leader and we like it because it’s great for the show." Co-host, Declan Donnelly, 48, added: "It’s great content."

It is an unprecedented move from one of the I’m A Celeb hosts - as he and Dec traditionally ignore such speculation. And while many I’m A Celeb viewers seem hell-bent on making Nella suffer during her time on the show, many others fear that those voting for her to undertake every task are taking things too far.

One fan on X/Twitter wrote: “Stop voting for Nella it's a waste of a vote she's only going to bottle it... make it make sense people... and then ya'll are saying how you can't stand her.” And another commented: “These grown a*s adults demonising Nella and nitpicking everything she’s done since one tiff that’s been smoothed out for over a week should really get their priorities, straight man, grow up and stop being a horrible human being.”
