Rita Ora has been spending time in her native Kosovo - where she is putting her music skills to one side and moving into the world of documentary making.

The 33-year-old chart topping star was born in Pristina - the capital city of Kosovo, which is located in the south east of Europe. And she has been back in the country to celebrate her recent birthday - where she was joined by Hollywood movie making husband Taika Waititi, 48 - and has been reconnecting with the people of the land.

While in Kosovo, Rita has been working with a documentary team that also made a documentary about iconic American grunge band Nirvana. The You Only Love Me singer is focusing her documentary on the youth culture of the country.

Having been back in Kosovo, Rita says the locals are mesmerised about her life and career and are hoping to follow in her chart topping footsteps. While her documentary will examine the nature of life in the nation - which has a very young-skewing average age.

Opening up about her trip to The Sun, Rita said: “I am in the middle of shooting a documentary about the underground culture of the kids [in Kosovo]. Sixty per cent of our population is under the age of 35 which is super-young. It shows there is so much anger and frustration going on underneath all of the restraints that we have had to see in the history of our country. I have been working with producers who are really passionate about Kosovo and where I am from. Doing music and being outspoken is definitely controversial.”

Rita and her family moved to the UK in 1991 when she was still a baby and she enrolled in the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London when she was a school pupil - setting her on her path to chart superstardom. Last year, Rita was a subject of Louis Theroux for his Interviews series.

During the interview, Rita’s family history is discussed, and audiences learned that her mother Vera, was a psychiatrist, while her father, Besnik, was an economist in Kosovo before having to flee to escape the risk of persecution. While they were unable to follow thier careers in the UK, Rita's dad opened a pub. The interview also delved into the early days of Rita and husband Taika’s romance.

The Kiwi director revealed in a candid moment: “You know who brought her to my house was Robert Pattinson ... He brought her over when I was having a little barbecue thing, and we got chatting, and we became friends, we hit it off.” “For the next three-and-a-half-years years we were just good mates ... It was a good friendship. And then we started to ruin it all,” he joked.
