Elon Musk has released a dramatic video showing his company's beating a Porsche 911 in a race, all while towing another Porsche 911.

The footage shows the at a starting line before accelerating forward. The truck quickly gets ahead but throughout the early bit of the video the back of the truck is hidden just out of shot.

It's only towards the end of the video that it is revealed the truck had been towing a trailer with a Porsche on the back of it. The truck with its cargo crossed the finish line just ahead of the competing luxury Porsche.

At the end of the video it's revealed the Cybertruck raced the quarter of a mile in under 11 seconds. It accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds.

Although some Porsche 911 models can accelerate from 0 to 60 in less than three seconds, it's unclear which model was used in the race. The Cybertruck has the capacity to tow up to 11,000 pounds.

The $99,990 Cyberbeast is the latest version of the Cybertruck. The cost of cheaper models of the Cybertruck start at $60,990, more than 50 per cent higher than what Musk first said in 2019 when the cars were announced.

Hordes of Tesla fans have been waiting for years for the Cybertruck's launch. Announcing its launch, billionaire CEO Musk said: "Once in a long while, a product comes along that is rare. Once every five to 10 years, something really special, a really unusual product comes along.

"We all remember those special moments. But these things are rare."

The novel vehicle is built to be bulletproof. Musk said: "If you're ever in an argument with another car, you will win."

It was recently announced Tesla suffered a brutal third-quarter profits hit, which saw shares in the company nosedive.

Reported profits and sales for Tesla were well below expectations and as a result its stock dropped by 23 percent, taking almost £153 billion ($189bn) off its market capitalisation and therefore giving personal net worth a major hit – leaving him with a fortune of £155bn ($193bn), according to the .

Musk told his investors that, "we dug our own grave with Cybertruck" as they are costly and are hard to get on to the marketplace. He added that Tesla also will be unable to hit its yearly output target of a quarter of a million cars until 2025. The revelations may leave his investors wondering if Tesla isn't growing as a company as quickly as Musk had previously promised.
