Omid Scobie made several revelations during his appearance on This Morning earlier today, but also seemingly followed in the footsteps of Meghan Markle when answering one particular question.

The journalist mimicked one of the Duchess of Sussex's most famous interview answers word-for-word as his chat with presenters Craig Doyle and Alison Hammond began on the ITV programme earlier today - going on to address the status of his relationship with the mum-of-two.

This Morning presenter Craig won praise from those tuned into the show at home, with many calling on the Irish presenter to be given the top job following his grilling of Scobie. Scobie's new book Endgame rocks the monarchy and their devoted fans. Scobie, who denies being a close friend of , details an alleged power struggle between King Charles and in his new literary offering.

But it's one particular version of the book that’s causing the real drama, after thousands of copies of a Dutch version of the book were pulled for identifying those who allegedly expressed concern over Harry’s son Archie’s skin colour. Piers Morgan named the two senior royals named in the Dutch version of Endgame while presenting his live TalkTV show on Wednesday night.

Appearing on the This Morning sofa today, Scobie addressed the backlash to his book, admitted he was "obviously frustrated" about the royal names appearing in the Dutch version of his book and declared "I'm not their friend" when quizzed about his rumoured friendship with Meghan and Harry.

Scobie may not be Meghan's pal but he conducts his interview similarly to the way the Duchess of Sussex dealt with one chat previously. After introducing Scobie to This Morning viewers today, Craig turned to the 42-year-old author and said: "Look, we're two days into the book coming out and the reaction has been kind of fierce - the public are unhappy, the press have been hard and some of the reviews haven't been great. So, I'm just wondering how your week has been so far?"

"Thank you for asking," Omid replied to the ITV presenter before going on to admit he knew his book would be controversial and cause a stir. Omid's initial four-word reply to Craig's question about his state of mind was identical to how Meghan handled a similar question during an interview four years ago.

During the 2019 ITV 2documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, presenter Tom Bradby asked the former Suits actress how she was she was amid intense pubic scrutiny before proceeding with any other questions. "Thank you for asking," Meghan answered, "because not many people have asked if I'm okay... But it's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."

Brady then probed Meghan further, asking: "And the answer is, it would be fair to say, not really okay? As in, it's really been a struggle?" To which an emotional Meghan replied: "Yes". The interview aired on ITV in October 2019, with Meghan and Harry quitting the royal family just a couple of months later in January 2019.

During his This Morning interview today, Scobie denied being friends with Meghan and Harry, telling hosts Craig and Alison: "I'm not their friend, I've never sat down with Meghan privately for interviews, I've never exchanged information with Meghan, I'm not in their private world in any way whatsoever."

Craig then asked the Endgame author he was fighting their corner, to which Scobie replied: "No. During Meghan's time as a working member of the royal family, I was extremely sympathetic for the position she was in. I was one of a number of journalists, a part of that small pack that covered the story, as a full time job."

He added: "For me, there were things that I saw being written about in the press, that comments are being made about her unfair treatment, when it came to how she was being written about compared to say how we've written about others in the past. And so I called it out."

Scobie went on to address the mixed reaction to his book, admitting: "I knew that it would be heated and controversial, absolutely. But a lot of this has been simply about me. It's been unnecessary information about me, it has been unfair attacks about me, it's been an assassination of my character. My father's been harassed."

* This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 & ITVX
