Manchester United loanee Will Fish admits he's not "actively looking" to return to Old Trafford in the New Year.

The defender headed out to Hibernian in the summer as he and the club sought to get him more minutes. Fish is among the latest players to come through the club's academy and is cutting his teeth north of the border as he looks to prove himself.

United insert January recall options into all of their academy graduate's loan deals and could recall Fish come January. The player though is enjoying his time at Easter Road and is committed to helping them achieve their goals with a return to Manchester not on his mind.

Quizzed on whether United could cut his loan move short if required, Fish replied, “I think they do but to be honest with you, those discussions haven’t been had yet. It’s not something that I’m actively looking to do.

“If I stay here, that’s something that I would love to do [reach the top 3]. It’s still pretty early in the season but under the gaffer, his coaching team and the way he wants to play, I think a few more tweaks and building on leads, we can easily push for the third spot.”

Fish has played more than any of his defensive colleagues as he enjoys regular minutes. There are a host of centre-halves ahead of him at Old Trafford so, if he were to return, minutes would be at a premium with Erik ten Hag currently juggling five central defenders.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were the preferred pair last term but injuries and a lack of form have seen both men be absent. Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans - who returned to the club in the summer - have been among those to step in.

Ten Hag has shown a willingness to trust his youth products. Alejandro Garnacho has been used every since the Dutchman arrived and Kobbie Mainoo impressed on his first league outing at Everton. The 18-year-old is already being lauded after a classy display in midfield.

No defenders have yet broken into the first-team from the academy, at least not on a regular basis. Fish is currently in his second successive year on loan at Hibernian having been at Stockport the year prior to that.
