Laura Woods couldn't resist Jermaine Jenas joke before Newcastle faced PSG

Jermaine Jenas was left gutted after Laura Woods made him the subject of a brutal joke ahead of Newcastle's controversial Champions League draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

The pair were part of TNT Sports' coverage at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, as Newcastle came away with only a point to hand PSG the advantage in the sides' battle to reach the knockout stages. During the pre-match build-up, Woods welcomed viewers back after an ad break and introduced former Magpies goalkeeper Shay Given, who played alongside Jenas at St James' Park.

"Welcome back to the Parc des Princes," Woods began as the two teams warmed up behind her. "We have a proper Newcastle legend alongside us, sorry Jermaine!"

Jenas was left stunned as Woods' joke sent his colleagues into hysterics, and the ex-England international turned his back before jokingly walking off screen. Fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand then got in the act, quipping: "Get your coat JJ, come back later!"

Given himself then joked: "There's a taxi out there now!" Jenas soon came back into shot and with Woods still laughing, Given added of his old team-mate: "I thought he did well for Newcastle!"

Their task on Tuesday was to provide coverage of Newcastle's trip to Paris, with Eddie Howe's side knowing that they needed something from the match in order to keep their chances of qualifying for the last 16 alive. It got off to a dream start when Alexander Isak made it 1-0 to Newcastle in the 24th minute with a simple finish. The Swedish striker followed up on a shot from Miguel Almiron which was only parried away by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and fell perfectly for Isak.

The hosts dominated possession and had the lion's share of chances, with Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope coming to the rescue to deny PSG substitute Bradley Barcola an equaliser midway through the second half. The Magpies soon went up the other end and appealed for a penalty when Achraf Hakimi challenged Anthony Gordon, but VAR agreed with the referee's on-field decision.

Then the true controversy ensued, as PSG were awarded a penalty deep into added time for a handball in the Newcastle box. Kylian Mbappe took the spot kick and dispatched it, putting destiny in their hands going into the final matchday which takes place in a fortnight's time.
