Ivanka shows off 'fun and carefree' side surfing despite dad Trump's legal woes
During her father's presidency, she was elegant, high-status and confident. Last month, she was anxious, reserved, vulnerable and innocent.
This week, however, Ivanka Trump is sporty, fun and carefree, says a body language expert, and for the first time perhaps ever, she showed a "more self-effacing trait" after falling off a surfboard in a viral Instagram post.
On Monday, she took to the popular platform to share shots of her surfing on artificial waves at what appears to be a resort or private residence as she celebrated Thanksgiving over the long weekend. The first slide shows her perfectly poised on the board, riding an equally perfect wave. She's clad in a flawless purple body suit that shows off her figure, which almost appears like a Barbie doll.
The next slide shows her falling into the waves in a hilarious snafu as she falls off the board, splashing into the oncoming rush of water, her feet in the air and her hair a mess. The final slide is a video of her finally attaining the balance she failed to achieve in the previous slide, though she's aided by a worker, who reaches his hands out to her and helps her steady herself before bringing her slowly over to the side of the basin.

Viral sausage roll debate leaves Brits confused about how to order at GreggsIn each picture, Ivanka is all smiles, her grin reaching her eyes and her laugh evident in the video. This is not the Ivanka the public is used to, and it's not the Ivanka the public saw in recent years amid all the politics and controversy surrounding her father Donald's presidency and his slew of court cases, including the four criminal felony indictments he faces and the real estate fraud case he faces in New York, which Ivanka herself had to testify at in early November.
"Ivanka is keen to share her Sporting Ivanka version in time for Xmas, being filmed standing on a surfboard clad in a purple swimsuit that manages to be both revealing and prim at the same time," body language expert Judi James told The Mirror. "This is the nearest to a fun and carefree Ivanka that the public have seen, and she even allows a peek of a more self-effacing trait as she falls off the board and into the water."
"It’s emphatically not a glimpse of anything less pitch-perfect or immaculate than usual," she added. "Ivanka’s body shape and limb positioning here still manages to look elegant and her ability to keep her balance just by lifting the fingers of both hands looks almost non-human. Even when she takes a tumble her limbs are elegantly positioned and her toes actually appear to be en pointe, like those of a model or ballet dancer."
James previously called Ivanka's "cosplay" and "roleplay," her ability to shift her appearance and present emotions she feels are beneficial for a given situation, an "impeccable" art that "could almost outrival Barbie in her ability to emerge with a different look for every occasion."
But change her look as she might, Ivanka's body language has been telling in recent years, James says, even as she tries her best to hide her true feelings at times.
"White House Ivanka was all about elegant, high-status dressing and body language signals of confidence and First Lady authority," she said. "Birthday Ivanka just pre-courtroom appearance looked sweeter and more vulnerable, hiding to the back of family poses and wearing a cute mini dress that implied innocence."
She continued: "Courtroom Ivanka wore a very understated but tailored and professional-looking dark pants suit to suggest reliability and an attention to detail as she walked swiftly into court with her chin raised and an inscrutable facial expression."
"Birthday Ivanka" refers to pictures the former First Daughter took on her birthday on October 30 with her husband, Jared Kushner, which was just a week before she testified in her father's civil fraud trial in New York on November 8.
The businesswoman had tried to avoid testifying but to no avail, citing her family and three young children as reasons why she shouldn't have to leave her home state of Florida to venture to New York on school day. She had previously been dismissed from the case, having formerly been identified as a defendant alongside her brothers Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.
She was dismissed on the basis of a statute of limitations, which makes unprosecutable anything that occurred before 2016. Nothing notable occurred after that year, as Ivanka stepped into her role as a senior White House advisor to her father shortly thereafter, then stepped down from the Trump Organization implicated in the case.
