Paddy Pimblett takes subtle dig at Tony Ferguson's training before UFC 296 fight

Paddy Pimblett has mocked Tony Ferguson for his questionable training regime before their UFC 296 fight.

UFC legend Ferguson, who fights Pimblett on December 16, recently completed 'hell week' alongside former US Navy Seal and endurance athlete David Goggins. The week consists of five days of intense training on fewer than four hours of sleep and Ferguson was left vomiting on a treadmill whilst completing the brutal week.

Pimblett has opted for a more scientific approach to his training camp as he carried out VO2 max testing and also spent time in a hyperbaric chamber in a bid to enhance his recovery. 'The Baddy' is in great shape just under three weeks out from the fight and currently weighs 78kg.

“Getting the oxygen testing done today, this is what you’re meant to do Tony," Pimblett said in a recent vlog. "Do it the scientific way, the oxygen testing. Not nine-thousand million steps on the stepper. Tony is getting finished whether it’s in Abu Dhabi, Timbuktu, Vegas or my mum’s back garden.

“The first 10 to 12 minutes is pretty easier, it’s when it starts getting into the 14-16km an hour range that it’s hard. When it started to get faster, I started to use my arms. Not bad for a pothead with a peasant haircut, the proof is in the pudding. Lightweight world-leading is 70.1 and I got 72, I am the f****ng boy.”

Pimblett hasn't fought since controversially beating Jared Gordon at UFC 282 last December. 'The Baddy' broke his foot in the opening round of that fight and is hoping to silence his critics with an emphatic win against Ferguson, who hasn't won a fight in over four years. Pimblett preached the benefits of using a hyperbaric chamber for recovery as it gives athletes the chance to breathe 100 percent oxygen.

“Everything I’ve read on it and been told about it, it’s brilliant for recovery. If other athletes like myself are using it, then it works doesn’t it," he said. "I couldn’t go to sleep, I put my hood up and phone on do not disturb whilst trying to get my head down. It’s mad when you first get in, your ears constantly make noises."
