Tesco customers who recently bought frozen garden peas have been urged to avoid eating them and return them to the store for a full refund.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) today warned consumers that the major supermarket chain is recalling Growers Harvest Garden Peas due to a possible contamination with an unknown type of berry, which may make the product unsafe to eat. Any customers who bought the product will receive a full refund when returning it - and no receipt is needed.

The supermarket said in a poster: "We are recalling various batches of Growers Harvest Garden Peas 900g due to the possible contamination of an unknown type of berry, which may therefore pose a risk to consumers, if consumed." The recall notice will also be posted on Tesco's website, social media platforms, and in stores.

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be "withdrawn" (taken off the shelves) or "recalled" (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

Tesco's latest product recall comes after people who bought duck breasts from Lidl were urged to return them as they may be contaminated with salmonella. The FSA issued a warning over the Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets with Plum, Soy and Ginger Sauce Sachet and Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets, Skin on and Boneless on Friday, as "salmonella has been found on the products above".

It stated: " Lidl is recalling Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets with Plum, Soy and Ginger Sauce Sachet and Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets, Skin on and Boneless because salmonella has been found in the products. Salmonella has been found in the products listed above. Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps."

The 450g packets of Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets with Plum, Soy and Ginger Sauce Sachet have a best-before date of 21 August 2024 while the Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets, Skin on and Boneless doesn't expire until 31 August 2024. No other Braemoor products have been affected by the recall, according to Lidl.
