Martin Lewis has warned Tesco shoppers that they could lose their Tesco Clubcard points as millions are set to expire by the end of this month.

The Money Saving Expert (MSE) founder issued the warning in the recent MSE newsletter and said over £16million Clubcard vouchers need using up.

The vouchers, which were first issued in February 2021, will expire on February 28 at 11:59pm.

Customers can use the vouchers both in-store and online to knock money off their weekly shopping bill.

They can also be used to cut the cost of filling up their car with fuel or be swapped for rewards worth more.

Tesco Clubcard vouchers are only valid for two years although, the Money Saving Expert did also share a "crafty" way shoppers can extend them further.

To do this, the Money Saving Expert website says you should "make a small purchase" on Tesco's Clubcard Rewards page online.

The Martin Lewis-founded website says this cannot be done in-store or on other Tesco pages.

For example, with your Clubcard points, you can get a £1.50 voucher to spend at a chain restaurant like Zizzi, Cafe Rouge, or Bella Italia by spending 50p worth of Clubcard points.

If you do this, the remaining balance is credited back to your Clubcard account as points.

These refunded Clubcard points will then be reissued as new vouchers, with an expiry date of up to two years in the future, when you next get a batch.

The Money Saving website said: "So if you spend 50p using a £10 Clubcard voucher, you'll get £9.50 back as new vouchers."

The Money Saving Expert site said there was "no minimum spend" for the voucher but the aim was "shell out as much as possible".

It also noted that you will need to do this for each individual voucher you have so you should "weigh it up" if it is actually worth it for the small vouchers.

The Money Saving Expert site added: "If you've a £10 voucher it's probably worth it – if you've got a handful of £1 vouchers, maybe less so."

If you are unsure if you have Tesco vouchers about to expire, you can view your Clubcard statement, and see how many points you have, on your Tesco Clubcard account.

You can log onto this through the Tesco website under "My Clubcard" or the Tesco Clubcard app.

Clubcard holders earn one point for each £1 spent at Tesco. Every point is then worth a penny in vouchers and you receive these every three months with your Clubcard statement.
