It has been revealed that Prince William and Prince Harry begged King Charles not to marry their 'wicked step-mum', now Queen Camilla.

In his explosive memoir Spare, which was released on 10 January 2023, the Duke of Sussex revealed everything - from his past drug use and the breakdown of the bond with his brother, to the aftermath of Princess Diana's death. And in the 416-page book, Prince Harry also revealed that both he and his brother objected to his father's second marriage.

The pair were left initially concerned that she would be a "wicked stepmother", with Harry sharing that both he and William pleaded with their father not to marry a second time following the death of their mother.

Harry recalls warning his dad at that time, writing: "A wedding would cause controversy. It would incite the press. It would make the whole country, the whole world, talk about Mummy, compare Mummy and Camilla, and nobody wanted that. Least of all Camilla."

In the book he also wrote: “I remember wondering … if she would be cruel to me; if she would be like all the evil stepmothers in the stories.” He added: “Willy had been suspicious of the Other Woman for a long time, which confused and tormented him. When those suspicions were confirmed, he felt agonizing remorse for not having done or said anything before.”

But while Harry reportedly claims he and William 'begged' their father not to remarry, they eventually promised the King they would welcome Camilla into the family.

He wrote: "We support you, we said. We endorse Camilla, we said. Just please don't marry her. Just be together, Pa."

He wrote that the King did not respond to the request and was determined to marry her, which he eventually did in 2005. Camilla received the title of Duchess of Cornwall following their union. Prince Harry in the memoir wrote that he finally accepted his father marrying 'the woman he loved', writing: "Despite Willy and me urging him not to, Pa was going ahead. We pumped his hand, wished him well. No hard feelings.

"We recognised that he was finally going to be with the woman he loved, the woman he'd always loved, the woman Fate might've intended for him in the first place. Whatever bitterness or sorrow we felt over the closing of another loop in Mummy's story, we understood that it was beside the point."

After Queen Elizabeth died, Charles became King Charles III and bestowed the title of Queen Consort upon his wife.
