Avocados; they're delicious, nutritious and considered an ultimate superfood thanks to their health benefits. But they are also a bit of a nightmare.

Even if you buy them 'ripe and ready', they usually remain rock hard for what seems a lifetime before turning soft, brown and unappealing the moment your back is turned.

Thankfully one savvy mum has come up with a simple solution to ensure her family has perfect avocados all year round. The founder of the popular Facebook page 'Slow Cooker Recipes & Tips', revealed she found a way to freeze sliced avocados fresh out of the skin, making them easy to use in meals and sandwiches.

"This is a little trick I've been doing with avocado," she explains. "I heard that you can buy it frozen, but was never able to find it anywhere. So I thought, 'why not freeze it myself?'. It works amazingly well." She says you can stop the fruit browning in the freezer but only if you follow her instructions, as reported by the Daily Mail. After buying a fresh avocado, cut it in half, take the pit out and slice it or cut it into chunks.

Lay it all out on a tray lined with parchment paper and freeze. Remove the frozen slices after one day and put them all into one bag and place them back in the freezer. Freezing them separately first prevents the pieces of fruit from sticking together and allows you to use it one slice at a time. Genius. The mum says they stay green and she throws them in smoothies or lets them thaw and has them in sandwiches.

Other people who had never considered freezing avocados loved her clever hack. "I had no idea it froze," one wrote. "I hate wasting the leftover avocado as no one else eats it in my house." Another said: "This will change my life! I bought frozen avocado and it was horrible." And a third replied: "This is the solution to my ever squishy avocado issues."

It comes after experts issued a warning over a new trend for storing avocados that emerged earlier this year. The storage trick - which went viral on TikTok - encourages people to submerge their avocados in water to keep them from going brown before you've had a chance to use them.

However, the method can actually create the perfect environment for dangerous bacteria to thrive, meaning you could make yourself sick if you decide to eat the water-soaked avocado. Scott Evans, of Pink Storage Cardiff, said: "When we became aware of this trend we saw that people were using this trick and that it was working for them. Submerging the avocado in water slows down the oxidisation process which causes your avocado to overripen.

"While it's clear the hack does keep your avocados fresher for longer, you shouldn't be using this social media hack as it is dangerous. When you submerge your avocados in the water you are creating an environment that allows human pathogens such as listeria and salmonella to thrive."
