Manchester United are set to take on Everton today as Erik ten Hag's side return to action after the international break.

United are set for a crucial run of games over the Christmas period, starting with a trip to Goodison Park to face an Everton side which have just been hit with a ten-point deduction. That game will be followed by a must-win Champions League clash against Galatasaray in midweek and league games against fellow top-four contenders Newcastle and Chelsea.

Ten Hag has been under increasing pressure after a poor start to the season, but eased some of that with back-to-back league wins before the international break and the Dutchman will be desperate to pick up all three points at Goodison. Here's all the latest news from United ahead of the clash.

Van de Beek set for January transfer

Donny van de Beek is ready to quit Old Trafford in January as he looks to get his career back on track, having struggled for game time since leaving Ajax in 2020.

''I am bouncing to play matches again," Van de Beek said. "The manager is making different choices now. We have a big squad and I am not the only one knocking on the door. We'll see in January what happens.

"I need to start playing games very soon - if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious. I have always been a lover of the game. I am absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day."

Mason Mount has picked up another injury, with the midfielder suffering a fresh setback following his £55million move from Chelsea over the summer.

Mount has struggled to make an impact since joining United and he now looks set to be sidelined for up to a month with a calf problem. The 24-year-old will miss today's trip to Everton, along with games against Galatasaray, Newcastle and Chelsea.

And Mount's absence only adds to United's injury crisis, with Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo and Tyrell Malacia also sidelined. Fellow summer signings Rasmus Hojlund and Jonny Evans are also doubts for the Everton game.

Ten Hag's Everton replacement

United's assistant coach Mitchell van der Gaag is set to fill in for Ten Hag when the Red Devils take on Everton today, with the Dutchman serving a touchline ban.

Ten Hag has received three yellow cards this season, meaning he will have to watch the game from the director's box. Van der Gaag has previously been a head coach at Maratimo, Excelsior and NAC Breda and will be supported by fellow assistant Steve McClaren.

When asked about his touchline ban ahead of the game, Ten Hag replied: "I'm quite confident. I will have an even better overview [from the stands], but we have a very good backroom staff. They are very capable and experienced, so they know what to do. That will not affect our game."
