Mark Zuckerberg's MMA trainer Khai Wu suffers defeat in PFL debut

Mark Zuckerberg's MMA trainer Khai Wu lost a unanimous decision in his PFL debut against Phil Caracappa.

Wu, who coaches Meta boss Zuckerberg at the Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu club in San Jose, was taking on Caracappa at the promotion's 2023 World Championship event in Washington, DC. The first round started with Wu landing some good strikes on the counter but Caracappa also connected with significant shots of his own.

Caracappa started to mix it up in round two as he pressed Wu against the cage and took him down. The 31-year-old was controlling Wu on the mat and landing ground and pound, as the coach of Zuckerberg struggled to get back to his feet. Caracappa continued his success in the third round and the judges scorecards read 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 in his favour after the final bell.

Wu's defeat means his professional record now sits at 7-5 whilst the win takes Caracappa to 10-3. Wu has goals of taking the PFL. who announced their acquisition of Bellator this week, to Asia but to do so he will need to pick up his first win in the SmartCage. Wu spoke about Zuckerberg's MMA abilities in an exclusive chat with Mirror Fighting before his fight against Caracappa.

"He is super strong, because he’s an athlete. He is always working out or doing something,” Wu said about Zuckerberg. “We’re a similar size but man he was strong, I was like ‘Holy crap, there’s no way, this is ridiculous’. It was kind of funny because that always stuck out to me. I think [Alexander] Volkanovski and [Israel] Adesanya said the same thing when they got to train with him.

“Everybody was sort of like ‘Do you feel that strength?’ It’s not that kind of strength where you can just take some supplements and get really strong because of them, it’s got to come from years of work. It's kind of like that farmer strength, for example a country-side wrestler who just lifted hay all day.”

“I think that’s one aspect of his game that people really underestimate. The way he can frame on you or arm-drag you and pull your head down, he is just really strong. We joke with him that he needs to stop lifting weights, but he says that he doesn’t even lift weights as much as he used too.”
